Which is better?

They are both pretty good. I would go based on the menu. They both have dishes that I really like.

In terms of fun, they are both okay.
Sci-Fi you sit at a table decorated as a car and watch movie clips. It is not an ideal set-up with a larger family if you want to talk. You basically have 2 in front, 2 in middle, and 2 in back. Those in the front will not easily be able to talk to those in the back. The movie clips get a little old after awhile.

50's - the wait staff act as if they were from the 50's. It can be entertaining, but it can also get a little annoying after awhile too.

Both are worth the experience if you have never been before. I think I kind of prefer Mama Melrose now, more for the food.

Sci-Fi wins, hands down. Super cool atmosphere, fun movie clips, super courteous servers, tasty fast food, and awesome milk shakes. :woohoo:

The experience at 50s depends so much on the attitude of your server, and are you really, really needing pot roast on vacation? :confused3

One of the worst meals I ever had anywhere was at Sci-Fi...I would say 50's hands down.

I would say 50s PT as well. I love the attitude of the servers and the comfort food offered on the menu.
Sci-Fi was just okay but we found the service extremely slow (almost two hours for lunch?!!?) and the movie clips get annoying after 60 minutes.
Both places have great shakes.

We like both: Sci Fi for lunch & 50's for dinner - both have fun atmospheres - Sci Fi has good sandwiches while 50's has better entrees - love the pot roast :thumbsup2

I prefer 50's Prime Time, though I agree with the poster who said that the quality of the experience there depends on the server. Perhaps I have been lucky, but I have enjoyed the few meals I have had there. The food hasn't been terrible, either.

Sci-Fi is fun, and it is worth eating there once for the atmosphere. But besides the onion rings and milkshakes, the food is pretty bad.

I love them both!!! Fantastic atmosphere and good food at both. The burgers at the Sci-Fi are, IMO, the best on WDW property. Love the shakes there too! Primetime can be a lot of fun if you get a server that's really into it. Even if you don't, it's still a good meal (especially the fried chicken) in a fun setting. Check out the menus and choose based on that - they are both great choices!!

50's PT for sure, I loved the pot roast and the strawberry milkshakes were yummy. The food we had a Sci-Fi was terrible IMO.

50's PT is an "active" experience. You interact with the wait staff and other diners. If you're into wacky, crazy fun, then it's the best!

Sci-Fi is more "passive". You sit there and watch movie clips. If you want to hang out with your party and use that time to talk and have fun, then you can't do it in the car. If you just want to unwind and calm down, then Sci-Fi is great. We have reservations during our next trip and we're going to request a table so we can all talk and be together.

As far as food goes, Sci-Fi is more like the Plaza in MK - sandwiches, burgers, reubens. 50's is more platters, mashed potatoes, etc. and for lunch, they do have sandwiches as well.

Kids meals are basically the same at both.

Milkshakes are also delicious at both. And you can get alcoholic versions at either :thumbsup2

Funny......
we love Sci Fi...and just don't like 50s. We've given 50s PT two chances and both times, the food has been disappointing. Service is fun and atmosphere is fun, but we've not had a good food experience.

We just love Sci-Fi.....goes to show you how varied tastes are!

My husband and I tried Sci Fi on our first trip. Watching the movie clips was cool, but I just have this thing about the restaurant being so dark. I like to see the food I'm eating! 50's was awesome, except that my husband was trying to get me in trouble with our "Cousin" for steeling food off his plate!

DW and I ate at both. When I had MIL & FIL with, we ate at 50's. The waitress was great! Sounded like my mom "Get your elbows of the table!" If you are looking for more of a social atmosphere and home cooked meals like Grandma made, then 50's PT is the WTG. We had lunch there - I would not do dinner there.

Sci-Fi is a must do once for lunch. It was very good lunch food. It is dark, not a place for being social w/ the movies playing. We did the table-car and not the booth car, that way we could face each other and talk...pass the milk shakes around. I would not go here for dinner either.

IMO, both good, but only for lunch and you should do each one at least once.

50's Prime Time for me as well!!! We had Uncle Tommy..cousin Tommy..can't remember which one and he was great!!! I can't wait to go back there again!!!:thumbsup2

Personally I don't think either restaurant is "great"; they are both good, they are fun, but great food would not describe either place (JMHO).

With that said, I prefer 50's PT over Sci-Fi. I like the theming better, and I like the "homestyle" food better as well. For me, I also like to sit as a family and enjoy each others company and have a conversation; sitting two by two in a replica car makes this impossible. I know they have tables, but it just loses the feel then.

Thankyou everyone for your replies, even though there were conflicting opinions, whe we are on vacation, we don't want homestyle cooking, and like that, it depends on whether you get a good server or not, so I think we are going to the Sci-Fi

That has been my experience as well. We have done 50's about four times and the food has never been anything but average at best. But we love the atmosphere and the servers if they are into the role are so fun.

Sci Fi is our favorite WDW eatery, we've been going there for years and never had anything but a great meal and great service.

Opinions do vary, I think they are both fun though and either would be a lot of fun.
