We own at OKW but can't get a ressie - we have 2 kids DS-14 & DD 11? The only thing available is SSR - I liked that the kids could get around OKW fairly easily by thenselves (pool & community center).

I don't know anything about SSR?

We own at OKW and have never stayed at SSR but I think with teens and pre-teens, you would be fine there. We have used the main pool at SSR (after using spa and fitness center) and it was very nice. SSR's theming does not particularly appeal to me but, once I am on property anywhere at WDW, theming really isn't that big a deal to me.

When are your travel dates? I thought OKW hardly ever filled up.

We love OKW and own there and usually stay there, but you will be fine at SSR. THe furnishings there are very nice. I don't care for the big parking lots or the room arangement (just like the other non-OKW DVCs), but it seems like a nice place. We only stayed in a studio there, so not sure that is a good comparison.

With the larger number of members now and OKW needing few points, our home status at OKW will become more improtant.

We NEVER had a problem getting into OKW either - we tried for Thanks. & 2nd week in Nov. (I guess last week for F&W is busy ) - I'm really bummed because my kids just love it there. Maybe I should book SSR & then wait list for OKW or the Beach Club - can you waitlist for 2 places?????

I think everybody buying into SSR must be staying at OKW!!!

I thought everyone buying into SSR was staying at BCV? :rotfl2: :lmao:

Seriously, I'd book SSR and waitlist OKW. BCV waitlist you could try that but OKW is much more likely. Also with the crowds during the time of your visit OKW would be the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle. SSR doesn't do much for me from a theme standpoint. It is very nice but doesn't quite seem all that magical. Maybe it is all those parking lots, I don't know? :confused3 I haven't stayed there yet but I'm sure it has much to offer as well. Good luck with this. :thumbsup2

We just returned from our first visit to SSR and loved it! I'm sure you'll have a great time if you stay there.

There are good things about both. However they are more "simlar" then say BCV and OKW (more like BCV, VWL and BWV are more alike.) They are both nice. However the rooms themselve will be more like BCV, BWL and VWL.

We ended up there also, mostly because that is where there was a room for us. However we were not dispointed. The pool is a lot of fun, and the resort is beatiful. It is nice to try new places also. Infact we liked SSR better then our OKW stay. (but in all fairness the SSR had less things go wrong with it that weren't all OWK fault, like weather.)

Infact we are back at SSR in less then 2 weeks. Once again because that is where there was a room (and we planned just a months in advance this time. We had not problem getting a room at VB though.

we own at ssr and i am sure you will really enjoy it there - the pool is great for children the age of yours - ask to stay in the springs section since it is closest to the pool, community hall and dining areas - and maybe you will enjoy a boat ride up and back to okw for a visit or to eat at olivia's! - the boat will also take you to dtd if you don't feel like taking the short walk there from ssr.

if you do decide to take the walk, watch out for all the renegade interlopers that these boards purport are streaming into ssr from all points disney - they just might snag your chair at the pool or treadmill in the fitness room or your seat on a bus to a park! :rotfl2: if the posters on these boards ever figure out how to keep non-resort guests out of ssr and/or off disney transportation, they could give the govt pointers on the country's immigration issues! :rotfl: but that's in another thread!

wishing you much magic for your trip.

Oh yes.....we've had trouble getting into OKW in early Nov '04 (waitlisted up until the night before and never got in) and many dates in Dec. Also, a friend of mine was unable to secure a ressie there for the week following Easter this year.
Low points.....big rooms & balconies..........parking outside your door........not to mention a beautiful resort....all reasons it can be tough at times to get a ressie at OKW.
My friend who was unable to get OKW this month did end up with 2 nights at SSR and said they liked it. Good luck to the OP. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay at SSR.

Some of us have been predicting increased popularity at OKW, but were outshouted by the BWV and BCV people talking about how hard those resorts would be to reserve at 7 mos after SSR began selling points.

I don't disagree with the BWV and BCV people about their wonderful and beautiful resorts that I dearly love, but regarding OKW "I told you so" is what I want to say here.

I actually think OKW will become more and more difficult to reserve as park-hounds "mature" and learn there's more to WDW than the "mouse race." Then the wide-open space, quiet, and lower points will look better and better.

I have stayed in both - and both are wonderful. Request a room in the Spring section of SSR, then you will be close to the pool and community centre. You will love it.

We own at BCV but we stayed at SSR last May for 10 days. We really liked it. Both of our children own at SSR and it was the first trip home for both of them. So of course we all stayed there. We had a great time there and the Grandchildren just loved the pool. I think it's fun to stay at the differant DVC's. We stayed at OKW this past October in a two bedroom and really liked that too. We'll be back at BCV in June and we're glad. It's always really nice to go home.

We stayed at both last fall. I preferred SSR, DH OKW. Our room at OKW seemed a little "tired" whereas everything at SSR still seemed brand new. I loved being so close to DTD and the main pool was great. We were in Congress Park and used the pool there more because there never seemed to be anyone in it.

I am a BWV owner, haven't stayed at SSR but love staying at OKW.

I believe that this is going to become a popular - perhaps even prevailing - sentiment in the next decade or two - and I'd add in SSR, as it shares the wide open space & quiet of OKW, and is second-lowest (on-site) in point cost.
