We have ressies for POFQ in Dec. of this year. My DD is 5 almost 6. Do you think she would enjoy the FQ or POR more? Any info and tips are appreciated!

Thank you:surfweb:

I think that you will have a great time no matter what. We stayed onsite for the first time in Sept. and had a great time. We stayed at POR and it was great for kids. My kids are older so my experience isn't your DD age. We did visit all the other resorts doing research for future trips and really found that we liked POR the best. (even of the deluxes, we found that maybe the poly, wilderness lodge and animal kingdom lodge we the only ones we would like to try if money were no object.) I say that because everyones tastes are different.

Have a great trip, enjoy the magic.

Some families really prefer POFQ because the lay-out is much more compact, which makes for shorter walks at the end of a long day in the theme parks. Others think the colors are more fun for kids. Since POR & POFQ share buses, I think you have a bit of an advantage at FQ. Harlequins & Mardi Gras masks give me the creeps so I'm not a big POFQ fan. Also, FQ does not have a table-service restaurant - you have to go to POR for that.

Port Orleans is beautiful - maybe one of the most beautiful resort settings at WDW. They do have a table-service restaurant & food court. They also have the Marina.

Did you see this in the allearsnet newsletter:

The seasonal program Campfire on de' Bayou is offered October through February only on Sunday and Thursday nights, 6:30 - 8 p.m., at Port Orleans Riverside Resort (weather permitting). Cast members read stories about the resort and have guest sing-alongs at the campfire site located behind the Fishin' Hole at Ol' Man Island. No reservations are necessary. The price for s'more kits is
$5.25 (tax included).

If your daughter is energetic and likes to explore, I would suggest POR. My son was 2 when we had him there last year and it was a great hotel for him because there were all of these trails for him to run down and animals to look at. We made it a point to come back to the hotel every day for a nap (and so that my DH could run) and then collected natural things that we could find around our room. Whether you stay at POFQ or POR, you can use the dragon slide either way, which is a plus.

We've also stayed at FQ and it's a lot easier to get around that hotel than POR but I think it's harder to let small kids be loud because of how close things are.

I've stayed at both and we prefer POFQ b/c of the compact lay out and not having long walks to everything. POR is beautiful, but with our children's small legs (they ar 8 and 6) and our bigger legs for that matter, we prefer POFQ. It depends on what you want. If you are planning to spend 'time' at the resorts- you might consider POR b/c it is larger. We are more park people and stay in the parks from opening to closing- so POFQ serves the purpose and doesn't have long walks. Plus, we love the beignets for breakfast!!!
POFQ has cool decorations- lots of alligator statues the kids would like. I don't know- to me POFQ seems more 'festive' and POR more sophisticated. But that is strictly me.
Both are great and you will love both- if you stay at POR, you might want to request a room close to the bus stop and food court.

The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards changing it to POR. Especially since I know DD can still us the serpent pool at FQ. I think she might be a little scared of the Mardi Gras decs too, now that I think of it.
But will definitely vist the FQ and check it out ;)

Actually, I might not change it now since the AAA rate we are getting at FQ for $116 a night is no longer being offered at either FQ or POR. All the AAA rooms must be booked. Oh well, FQ it is then! I know we will have a great time no matter which hotel we are in :)

We went for the first time in Sept. and stayed at the POR. We loved it. We have three children... DS16, DD8 DD5.. and they all loved the POR. The food court, store, nice pools! My DDs loved the 'walks'. They saw Geikos, and frogs.. small things but huge to my girls. We were in Building 25 and the Bus depot was a hop/skip and jump away... very close! The walk to the lobby, etc. was about 7 minutes. Very pretty and peaceful. The entertainment at the restaurant at nights (piano man) was wonderful!

We spent a lot of time walking around the area... and loved it. The arcade is pretty nice as well.

can't you use both pools? staying at either resort? We are staying for the first time @por and I thought I read that we can go over and use the pool at FQ too? we plan on using both resorts if that is true?

We stayed at POFQ in April, at POR 5 years ago. My DS 11 liked the slide at POFQ, but the pool was so crowded, we could not even swim. DH, DS, & I decided we like POR the best, just more relaxed, better food court etc.

We've stayed in both and preferred POFQ.

When I was at Riverside we stayed in the Allegator Bayou section and the walk to the food court was soooooooooo long. When you're still doing mid-day naps, you spend more time walking than napping (or swimming).

We liked both pools, the Riverside one seemed bigger by the FQ one had a cooler slide.

No matter which you decide upon, you'll have a fantastic time, we loved these resorts.

We stayed at POR, my kids oooh'd and aaah'd over the dragon slide at FQ when they saw it from the boat to DTD, but when we took the carriage ride they got a better look at it and were glad that we didn't stay there, they much prefer, as i do the pool area at POR.
