This question kind of crosses categories, but I figured you guys are the experts in Disneyland. 
We are in the DVC, and we've only been to Disneyland once. We were lucky to get into the Grand Californian (before part of it was converted to DVC). This year we booked a last minute trip (as in - booked a couple days ago for a trip in August!), and the GCV are full.
We're on the waiting list, but I need to form a good backup plan. Which of the other two Disney hotels would you recommend? We definitely want to stay in one of them and use points, since we have some that will expire before our next trip. It's just me and my husband (we don't have children).
And are there any particular rooms/levels you would recommend? I know there isn't a guarantee, but it's always good to have an idea what to request.
