Which Honda Pilot would you buy?

We have an 07 EX-L and love it! Bought it new and it now has 40K on it. Three trips to Disney and Myrtle Beach and it has worked out great for our family. Two boys 19 and 12 as well their friends. Love it so much we are going to look at 2010's today in fact. The deal we got back in 07 put us in a good position to trade up to new and DECREASE our payment! 2.9% Honda financing helps too.

Might be a lower payment but you're biting on to another loan... why not keep the 07, pay it off, and have a fairly new and reliable vehicle with no car payment?

We LOVE our Pilot!! It is an '05. We traveled through the Oklahoma Blizzard in December and it performed PERFECTLY. I feel completely safe in it at all times.

One thing we did that helped tremendously on our test drives was taking our son and his carseat. We loaded him up for every test drive to see how easy or difficult it was and to see how much room was left to sit next to him etc. My husband and I sat in every seat. Take your kids and that may be the deciding factor for you regarding space and ease of getting them in and out. If it works....you have a great vehicle. If it does not, you know to move on.... You will find what works best for you and will love it as a result.:goodvibes My son also gave us his opinion of each vehicle. It was quite comical (and informative) to see a 2.5 year old have pretty good comments about each one!

Let us know what you decide!:thumbsup2

Well I'm off to test drive them all!. I am really considering the 05 however, they just got a EXL 07 with 20,000 miles and Nav ( but I already own a Garmin)! That would be way over my budget but we will see! I will update you guys when I decide!

AND THE WINNER IS!!? The 2007 EXL with 22,000 miles and navigation, heated seats and sunroof! I love this car! Thanks to everyone for your help!:cool1:

Honda's navigation is the best out there - so much better than a Garmin. We have/have used factory NAV by GM, Chrysler, Honda and have a Garmin and Tom Tom - Honda's is the best by far!

I have the fully loaded one and it is an amazing vehicle. By the way, Hondas keep their values too! Safe driving!

Ahh...the heated seats. :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc Nothing better! We're going cheap on our next vehicle, and that is the thing I will miss the most. :sad2:

Glad you found a vehicle you love, and hope it works out well for you. Do What kind of a warranty do you get with it? Normally I'd not ask, but given the tranny problems with lots and LOTS of older Honda vehicles (not necessarily '07s, but especially with the V6 in older models) it is something I'd be concerned with.

Have fun with it!

We have a 2006 Honda Odyssey purchased new, at 70,000 miles we had to have the transmission rebuilt for $3,700. and at 74,000 miles the motor mount was bad and that cost over $600 to replace. If you research this online you will find many many people having this problem. not to mention all the nit picky stuff like problems with the automatic doors and a windshield that is very noisy. We had it back so many times for the windshield that we ended up giving up and living with the noise.

We have a 2004 Honda Odyssey and we've had to put money into it in this last year to the tune of 2k. We need a new timing belt and are planning on doing that in the spring. We only have 100k on it. Our inlaws have had 2 with over 250k on them with vritually no problems. Sadly it sometimes just happens. My dh is meticulous about maintenance and we've always used the dealer.

That being said, I have to agree about needing a pilot for 4 wd in the north. We live in snow country and drive our Odyssey with snow tires everywhere including up to the ski house we have. I can't tell you the number of 4wd vehicles I have seen off the road over the years in foul weather. False sense of security for sure.

My dh insisted on the Odyssey when our 3rd child came. I so am not a minivan girl, but I have to admit it is a totally roomy, comfy vehicle. We have been grateful we got the leather and dvd. The Pilot was not a conteder due to the lack of room.

Congrats on your new car!

My family buys used saabs from a local dealer. We always get heated seats. We spent 2k on our last one. It had 120k on it. It has 150 or more now 4 or 5 years later and is going strong. My folks just bought a used luxury saab wagon with leather, heated seats of course, sunroof and it is practically new (even though it is like a 2005) for 7k from the dealer. Our 900 gets 30 mpg.

Word of warning, if they haven't already, they'll strongly suggest you do the water pump and timing belt at the same time - to the tune of about $1000-$1200. I had it done because I reasoned that if the water pump goes - and it eventually will - it'll cost a lot more to have it done by itself than with the timing belt (had them look up the book/flat rate hours for each job separately). JMHO, of course - and I saved up for it and pushed it to about 115K before having it done so I would have the extra cash without nibbling into our savings.

Love my Ody with her snowshoes - handles quite well in the snow and slush, although with the original tires...not so much. BTW, if you are buying a new vehicle and intend on doing snows, IMO it's better to just buy a set of steel rims and mount the snowshoes on them from the get-go. Cheaper in the long run (as long as you intend to keep the vehicle for more than 3 or 4 year), and makes for longer life for the tires, rather than mounting, balancing and unmounting each year.

Funniest thing is seeing someone messing with a 4WD vehicle and actually sliding off the road doing so. :rotfl: Nothing hurt but his pride, but still...

Because of this I took out the extened HONDA Warranty! It was 2000 more but it covers bumper to bumper till 100,000 miles Honda parts and service with no detectable! And 5 years on paint/ rust! I plan on having this car for at least 10 years so I wanted to have all my bases covered!

I just asked dh about this and apparently we are getting both these done at the same time too. However, I guess we have a coupon and before tax it will be $550. Last spring the darn thing broke down in traffic with my dh in NYC while the kids and I were checking into our hotel. It just died. :scared1:Somehow he got it going enough for the valet to park it for the weekend while we sat watched 'Wicked' and toured the city. We didn't know what to do and worried the whole weekend. We finally decided to drive my MIL home and keeping driving the 8 more hours to our house. I forget what was wrong, but we got home and got it into the shop the next am. 2k. We were seriously bummed and at that time they told us about the timing belt (and apparently the water pump). We'd like to get another 100k but if we keep having to pour dough in, at one point it won't be the secure vehicle we need with 3 kids traveling in the artic and all over the eastern seaboard.

Great minds think alike. We do this too. :) Tee hee, yep. Honestly, I commute an hour each way 3x a week and every snow, sleet or flurry, it's all those macho 4wders. We had a gmc blazer years ago and it was fine. We feel the Honda is just as good unless there is a foot of snow.

Wowza - the HondaCare warranty must have gone up a lot! Still, with transmission worries, I slept lots easier knowing we had it. ;)

Wow - I just checked my receipt and it was $1K, but it was timing belt, water pump, all belts (something was occasionally squealing which was driving me nuts), oil change, state inspection, tune-up (plugs, etc.), securing a loose heat shield that was rattling (clamp was broken/missing), changing winter tires over, checking brakes, etc. So I guess it was significantly less than I remembered for the actual water pump and timing belt replacement. :rotfl: At least the comp'd the rental car. :rolleyes1

As for the plugs, this is the first car where I didn't just do them myself. I feel like a schmoe having them do this, but everything is so jammed in there, I just couldn't bring myself to mess with it. :confused3

She probably bought it from the dealer. THey always charge way more than they need to. I bought mine from another dealer (in a different state) and paid $700 for the same warranty. HondaCare paperwork, etc. All legit. Some dealers will take the hit on their commission; others won't.

I LOVE my 07 Pilot! It is the base model, got it new in June 07 for less than 24K on the road including having the dealer put the roof rack on. I then took it to a window tinting place and got the windows tinted, as the roof rack and the tinted windows were the only things I really needed from the next model up. I've got 38,000 miles on it now and I plan on driving it for several more years. It's plenty roomy enough for my family. My kids are 16, 12, and 9 and all three can sit in the middle seat comfortably, and my 9yr old is still in a booster seat. I agree, the rear seat is not meant for large people! My 16yr old will sit back there sometimes when he wants his own space but his knees are about up to his chin!

OP, you will be happy with your Pilot :)

dont buy any. buy an american car. as a union worker buy a american car. help the us dollar. i am a steel worker. thats why there are people still out of work. just my 2 cents.

I did the same thing and paid about half of what my local dealer wanted - same HondaCare warranty, and had no problem getting work done at my local dealership with it. I actually brought in the price and offered to buy it through my dealership for the same amount - they said no, so I got it at the other place (in NJ maybe?). :confused3

I understand you feel this way.. We are a blue collar family as well (my husband is a pressman in a printing company).
The van that was totaled, that ultimately lead to my getting my pilot, was an OLDS. I will only buy a Nissan or Honda because they last forever and they don't cost a lot to maintain. I wish the American car companies would put forth a little more effort into making cars and suvs that last 200,000 miles; I would always buy American.

With that said if we were talking a new truck for hubby it would have been FORD all the way! Maybe after the Pilot is paid off !
