Which Halloween party?

Hi to everyone on the DIS boards, I've been enjoying reading all the threads and advice, thank you to every one.
My dilemma is that we are staying at the CBR in Oct,and our DD10 feels that the MNSS is too young for her but I feel that the HH is too old for her, my DH is sooooo excited about HH and is desperate to go as a family. Any advice, or experience of HH, will it be too old for her?,she has done the London dungeon last year, and was a little bit frightened.

Everything I have read from this forum, and US own site regarding HHN, is that they strongly advise that children do not attend. As a result my DS (14) and DD (10) will not be going to HHN but will be going to MNSSHP. The fact that we are dressing up and making a big deal of it will make the whole experience a lot of fun we think.
If your daughter was scared in London Dungeons then I would imagine HHN being a lot worse as they actively try to scare you by jumping out on you from dark corners.

As I say I have never been but I have read about it, seen the props around the park, heard about it, not a chance I would take a 10 year old who was a little bit frightened at the London dungeon.

Now MNSSHP is open age, went again last year as 2 adults and 14 year old DS. I now every child has a different outlook on things but our DS loves dressing for Disney events even at 14.

We'll most likely be doing both (mid 20s couple) We both enjoyed MNSSHP in 2007 and i've bought our tickets for this year aswell, it's a lot of fun and is for anyone of any age HHN even i'm a little apprehensive about as i'm a bit of a wuss truth be told *lol* but my bf loves the idea of it (however this year's theme isn't impressing us much so far, gonna wait for the preview video methinks!) I wouldn't consider HHN with children not in at least their teens though and even at that stage it's really down to the individual child. What would concern me with a 10 year old is that children around that age can sometimes act like they're not scared of something to try and be grown up when they actually are and it causes them anxiety after the event.

Just for info the HHN does have safe areas ie non scary zones, a bit like dipping your toes in the sea without getting totally wet. My DD's first went from the age of 9, 13 and 15 the one who was most scared was DW aged 36. The scare zones are where you will expect to encounter cast members dressed up and popping out to scare you and then there are the haunted houses with different themes which you walk through with a high intensity scare and jump factor, with of course the normal rides which you can go on so if something is too intense DH can go to one of the haunted houses while you take a ride and then there is the parade which kids and adults love with beads, tokens and candy being distributed and lastly the Bill and Ted adventure which is a sit down show and not scary and good fun.

I went to HHN in 2003, when I was 15, and I'd honestly say it was my absolutely favourite thing about Florida! I still go on about it today!

Not too sure how a 10 year old would cope with it mind you, me and my 2 friends of the same age did get scared at points, but not like in a hysterical scarred for life way.

Does your daughter like horror movies? And doesn't get scared at them? I personally love horror movies, and have done for years.

Like someone before has said, there are areas that aren't scared, although can you be walking around the park and someone jumps out at you from behind a tree.

HHN's - I took my son (12 at time) and Daughter (15 at time) and it was too scary for him and even she didnt want to go in all the houses (although went in a few and loved them)

My kids arent shrinking violets either as were brought up on scary stuff. I have a full size Alien at home so theyre very used to scares! (sorry cant post pic as I'm a newby here)..

IMO 10 years old is too young for universal HHN's. The Disney Haloween evenings are great fun - totally different and I dont think anyone could not have a fun time there.

I do MNSSHP but would never do HHN and i'm 28!! I hate anything scary and so I cant imagne what a 10 year old would do. If they really like horror movies they might be fine with it

I went in 2003 and it was amazing...but I was petrified!!!!!!! I deffo wouldn't take a 10 yr old imo.

We're out there this oct and we're doing both HHN and MNSSHP. But my ds who's 2 wont be going to the HHN! xx

We went to Universal back in September 2002 and the stuff we saw in preparation for the halloween parties there scared the living daylights out of us grown ups (and we love scary films and things of that type) they didn't scare our DS who was only 2 at the time because they were aiming themselves at us, not him, to scare witless I think it took be all day to get some colour back in my cheeks.

Some of it it very intense so I'd take her to MNSSHP unless she's into major horror stories and makeup effects. They played special sound effects too and added lots of mist and smoke and this was during the day I would hate to try and make my way around there at night when it's going on

Thanks for your responses. DD is a confident kid and has grown up with a DH who loves horror(DH is very jealous of full size alien). My dream for Halloween would be a park that offers for both range of ages, in separate areas.

PS I cant watch Dr Who without a cushion or having to go make a cup of tea, go to the bathroom or any possible reason to leave the room. DH and DD both roll their eyes at me!
