Which game system is best?

I was thinking of getting DS9 the Disney Marvel game for his birthday this month but, of course, they don't make this for the plain old Wii. I only think about this stuff at Christmas shopping time so I had forgotten that I would probably be buying a new game system this year.

I just don't know what's best (and cheapest). Any advice?

If you already have a wii you might want a wii u since your old games and controllers will still work. That's what we did. I paid $300 (Mario bundle?) and got a $25 gift card and $25 back from best buy through an Amex offer.

We have the WiiU and love it. They will no longer be making any new Wii games as all the new games will be made for the Wii U. You can use old Wii games on the Wii U.

XboxOne and PS4 are the best. They are also not cheap and both double as a Blu-Ray player. They are both neck and neck in terms of performance, quality, etc. We have the XboxOne (and a 360) and one of our favorite non-game related things is the voice controls such as "Xbox Pause" during a movie. It beats fumbling for the remote!

Xbox360 is a great gaming console but is a generation old now so that is something to consider going forward as to whether they will make the games your son wants in the future on the 360.

As far as the Marvel game goes, I'm not familiar with it so you'd need to check to see which systems they make it for.

Nintendo systems are for little kids and don't grow well with kids in my opinion. Your son is 9 now and pretty soon will probably be interested in Call of Duty, Destiny, Titanfall, etc and a Nintendo Wii/Wii U is terrible for more grown up games.

Oh, if he is interested in any of the Halo games, it is exclusive to Xbox consoles so a Playstation wouldn't benefit him if he is into Halo. Kingdom Hearts (4? I think?) is eventually going to come out and will be available on Xbox One & PS4 where previously it was a Playstation exclusive game.

The Wii is known for being more family-friendly and having a larger selection of games for children and teens. Not to say the other consoles don't have youth oriented games as well, but there are far more T/M rated games on the Xbox and Playstation consoles than on the Wii. The other two also focus on bringing better graphics, more integrated online interaction, and are now working to act as media centers and offer blu-ray playback, streaming, etc.

Oh gosh, my 9 year old can play Disney infinity and Mario kart until he goes to college. No way would I buy a system so he could be on a battlefield and shoot people. There's a reason these games are rated mature.

I would definitely go with the Wii U.

The PS4 or xBox One would be fine if your DS were older. However there are actually very few games available for these systems becasue they are so new.

The Wii U has exclusive rights to all the Mario games, plus as PPs mentioned it would allow him to play all his old favorites too.

Happy Birthday to your DS!!

Here's some basic comparisons for you. Prices may be off, as the article is 4 months old, but the basic system comparison may help.

For what it's worth, we own a Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360. We're getting a PS4 for Christmas (as our PS3 is dying and the 360 is less than 5 months old), and then a XBox One maybe early next year.

DS is 11 and has the Wii and XBox in his room. The PS is in the living room.

My kids love the XBox 360 right now. The wii got no use so we sold it awhile back, the games were mostly too kiddish and cartoon like for my kids (ages 11 and 7) current likes. They really enjoy the Kinect that we purchased to go with the Xbox and I have to say I enjoy using it do for things like Zumba or playing the dancing games. We like that the Xbox can be used as a dvd player and also allows for Netflix usage and the kids like that they can connect and play games with their friends - they are HUGE into Minecraft.
Personally I would say your 9 year old will start outgrowing the Wii soon, so I wouldn't invest in the Wii U.

It all depends on what type of games you want to play. If you want more adult theme you go with Play stations, if you want family friendly you want Nintendo. Play stations Have higher graphs and better realistic pictures. You can get kid friendly games but not to many. With Nintendo is they have very good graphics, but cartoon and anima type pictures. Play station you have better internet connections and can play dvds. Nintendo Wii and Wii u does have internet but limited, you can watch youtube, nexflex and hulu. Both you can purchase games over the internet and download onto the system. They run very close in price from games and console. It just all depends on what type of games you want to play. As I tell a lot people buying for the first time. look at the games that you would like to buy for each system and whatever looks the best and fits your needs that is the one you go with. I have both I prefer Wii u over playstation because of the games choices.

Added: I do not know much about Xbox. I heard it is fun and in between play station and Nintendo.

We have both the Wii (old version) and PS3. When we got the Disney Infinity last year we got the PS3 version. Graphics/quality much better than Wii. Just got the Marvel one last month. Everybody loving it. Again, got PS3 version. They do make PS4 version too.

Ds11 hasn't touched our wii in years. He and all of his friends have xboxes, and play together in person, and from their own homes.

I have an Xbox 360 with kinect and a PS3. I like the PS3 and lean towards it more. I feel the graphics are better. There is a wider range of games. The kinect was cool, but in our current apartment, there simple is no room for it. I refuse to get rid of my Xbox 360 though. I have $$$ invested in rockband and boy I can't give up on the fable series. But all new games are purchased for the PS3, and eventually I will be getting the ps4. I feel more of my friends plays PS3 and ps4 then Xbox 360 and the Xbox one.

OP You can look at it many ways.

The Xbox One and the Playstation 4 are the newest ones - discounts are slim and will be the most expensive. Since you want something this month you'll have to pass on the off chance of black friday deals.

WiiU - I think this'll be the safest bet. Relatively new. Latest from Nintendo.

Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are slowing fading you. Although the cheapest out of the bunch theres a reason for it and you'll find yourself looking for something new again in 2 - 3 years.

I'd go with an xbox 360

We have every system known (practically!) but the one that gets used is the 360. My kids don't play our Wii at all, even though we must have 15 or more games for it and every accessory.

We have/had a Wii, DS *14* hasn't touched it in years.
He/we also have a xbox 360, PS3, and PS4. IMO it's time to leave Nintendo behind, OP.

If the OP's child was 14 I would agree. However, being 9 is a huge difference. There is no way my 9 year old will be playing games like Call of Duty any time soon, so the Wii U is perfect for us. We also had plenty of Wii games and controllers that we were not ready to dump yet. The only downside is that they stopped making Madden for Wii U.

My kids (ages 7 and 11) prefer the sports games that are available for Xbox - like NBA or FIFA, etc. They love playing Infinity and Minecraft, as well as many other age appropriate games. The graphics is a ton better on Xbox then the Wii was. So, please, don't think the only games available for XBox are war games.

I mentioned that as a previous poster gave that as a reason to change. We chose to stay with a Wii system as we already had Wii games and controllers and the games available interested my son and were age appropriate. I am sure if he was 14, we would have switched at that point to another system.
