Which floor, and view at VGF?

So I'm waiting for closing and trying to decide on my first trip... I love a good view, and I'm not sure if a view of the pool, the lake/MK ... Let me know what you think... I'll have up to 300 points available (450 if I want to borrow) and want this to be a great first trip as a DVC owner.

There is only one building for VGF. We stayed standard view last year for five nights. This year we have standard again for four nights. We had a very good view of the monorail, the tall water feature by the villas (on the way to the pools), plus a bit of the pools. We were on the fourth floor.

Are you going to book a lake view (more points) or a standard view?
I’ve stayed twice now once standard and once lake, both were on the 4th floor on the Poly side. I actually preferred the standard view as the monorail was very close when it went by.

It never would have occurred to me that I was into it until, well...4 times through the years I've had a room/balcony where I could see the monorail and I just seem to get a child like sense of joy at seeing it go by - it makes me smile, probably all those memories of riding it back in my youthful DL days.

I have to agree, I grew up near trains and always watched them when they tumbled by. I remembered when riding the monorail cost an E Ticket and would probably enjoy that view.

We're staying at GFV for the first time in September (we've got a cash booking at OKW, but they can't bring us forward a day so we've got to use points). It'll be only one night - and in a studio so as to save points for next year. Anyone recommend a floor/area to be in for someone with mobility problems? I'm not having the scooter delivered until we get to OKW, and we intend just hanging round the resort for the day as our park tickets and dining plan won't activate until day 2 when we check in at OKW.

I assume that if we want to lounge around for a while we'd have to go to the main building as there isn't a lounge area in the DVC block, is there? I certainly won't want to sit out in the heat all day!

The lounge area in the villas building is quite nice. And if you want more hustle and bustle, you can go over to the main building's lobby, not far away and accessible by covered walkway.

Are you in a standard or lake view studio? The dreaded 1221 is a standard. For mobility problems, I would ask for either ground floor or "near elevator," although the building overall is quite small. Asking for ground floor will avoid 1221, but the ground floor studios are a longer walk inside because the central atrium area on the ground floor is the lobby and the rooms are farther down the hall, if that makes sense. Another idea would be to ask for high floor, near elevator.

We stayed during the Christmas season in a standard, 2 bedroom facing the main Grand Floridian building. Second floor, room 1225. Oh my gosh!! I never would have though second floor could provide such gorgeous views. We had a view of the Christmas decorations on the covered walkway. We had a wonderful view of fireworks, and the monorail. Off to the side was the beach area, and then of course the greenery. It was magical!! I would think any of the rooms around that location, on any floor except the ground floor would be beautiful. I do not think a lake view would compare at all unless you had a theme park view. There is a web site, (I don't remember what it is, but if you google Disney's DVC, GFV views, you will probably find it.). It shows every single room's view. Make sure you get on that web site on the exact day it opens to get your reservation. GFV is very hard to get. We are staying next month at BWV, and I could have chosen GFV. It was open, but I thought I would try something new. Now, I am SO sorry that I didn't grab it. Buying at GFV is one of the best things we have ever done for our family, and for us as a couple. Welcome to the family, and welcome home! Enjoy.

And, is there a 1-Bedroom equivalent to it? DH and I have a standard view 1-BR booked in February and I wasn't planning to make any requests, but I might if I can avoid the view I saw in a photo from 1221 somewhere!

It looks right out at the roof and port cochere. If you like red roof and building it's not bad.
