Which extinct WDW restaurant do you miss the most?

I miss Breakfast at Tony's! Fab coffee and they brought a huge cinnamon roll to the table while you waited for the rest of your food. A nice relaxing way to get the day at MK started.

Bev

I agree-they had great breakfasts. I won't even go there now, it is horrible.

:wizard: Our first trip to WDW was in 1983 and our favorite thing was breakfast at Tony's Townhall Cafe in MK...back then you could sit out on the "patio" area that was all open and watch the characters come out (not like the planned character viewings they have today) and the kids could just run out with their autograph books....I think they gave you a basket of muffins and pastries and had the best Mickey waffles...we did that every trip even though it changed over time. Now breakfast is only for grand gatherings. It really was magical sitting there early in the morning as the park "woke up" pixiedust:

I'm another one missing the OLD Akershuis - pre-princess. Oh we loved that place!

Also miss the Crystal Palace before it was a Character meal. We would always start our MK day with breakfast there - it was so pretty and the food was tasty!

I have one and I can't even remember when it closed. My wife and I only ate there once and flat out loved it!

It was Ariel's at the Beach Club.

It is still there but is only used for private functions. Whenever I am there and walk by I just sigh and keep walking.

I can't for the life of me why they would close such a unique and great restaurant.

Just typing this makes me sad.

Missing Ariel's at the Beach Club. I know it's now used for special receptions, but we had a lovely meal there when my boys were little. :)

As another poster mentioned, a recent major disappointment for us was the removal of two vegetarian options from the ABC Commissary menu -- the tabouleh wrap and the vegetable lo mein. This CS location was our family favorite, and now it's a total pass for us.

I miss Minnie's Minnehuene. (I know I'm spelling it wrong). It's basically the old Luau. I loved that it had the characters in it!

I think you're referring to the "Empress Lily" Riverboat restaurant. We had a character breakfast there in 1983 when I was 8 years old. Goofy "ate" my head, I'll never forget it! Of course, I can't remember what the food was like though.

We ate there when I was little too!!! I don't remember it, but we have tons of pictures from it!

Oh, how I miss those. :(

If you do a little "googling," you'll find recipes for them, and write-ups about the chain of stands still operating up in Canada.

There are so many restaurants and character events that have changed.
1) The old menu at the Kona Cafe. They had the best ice cream sundaes and remember the Pink Lelani drinks.
2) Tangaroa Terrace and The Papete Bay verandah. Minnie's breakfast was held at tha Papeta Bay.
3) I also agree with Flagler's. It was one of our special dinner nights.
4) Top Of The World Sunday Brunch.
I realize business is always changing, but leave some of the special touches that brought us back year after year. We all miss them.

I miss Minnie's Minnehuene. (I know I'm spelling it wrong). It's basically the old Luau. I loved that it had the characters in it!

I had forgotten that one. We took my then 3 year old DD and got a beautiful pic of her with Minnie, we even put it in her senior yearbook ad.

Anyone remember the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon??????
I looved this place. It seems like a simple box lunch with a great show. I went about 5-6 times and every time but one I was the guy in the audience that Miss Kitty sang to. She liked us bald guys I hear.

Akershus before it became all princess, all the time

Alfredos - got mixed reviews but that alfredo WAS unique and delicious

Tusker House - so sad this spot is no longer the CS gem it was

I WILL miss Concourse. Their steak, service, and atmosphere was 1000x better than LeCellier. What a shame!

Flagler's...just loved that restaurant!

Tangora Terrace & Papeete Bay Verandah (sp)......

Top of the World for Sunday Brunch!

The Empress Room, that was so elegant :)

:earboy2: Great topic! We really miss the Fort Wilderness character breakfast, Breakfast with Melvin the Moose! This was a terrific breakfast show in the same place that Hoop-Dee-doo is held, and we loved it! Speaking of Fort Wilderness, does anyone remember the guitar player and make your own pizza in the evenings at Trail's End?

:mickeyjum

This place sounds really cool!!! Tell me more!!! Do you have any old pictures? I hear a lot of positive stuff about HDDMR but I'd much rather see this kind of thing! But we're character freaks. ::MinnieMo pluto: :smickey:

I watched the Luau at Tokyo Disney on you tube the other day....I sooooo wish ours was like that! It looked like so much fun! :)

It's so funny the ones I thought of first when I opened this thread were repeated time and time again...Chef Mickey's at DTD, Alfredo's at Epcot, the Sound Stage at MGM (have a great pic of my husband and I with Belle and the Beast from there!) and The Empress Lilly at DTD. But especially Chef Mickey's -- I loved that place!

Post it please!!!! I would love to see old restaurant pics! When we went our our honeymoon we meant to do the character breakfast at the soundstage with our item of choice (from the package). Somehow we ended up at Hollywood and Vine (no characters). :( I wish we were addicts back then like we are now! We sure missed out on a lot in those early years!

Empress Lilly sounds like it was a blast!!! I wish they'd do something like that again on the lake & it could load at the Wilderness Lodge.

Oh how I miss this we had the best time and there were character all for an ice cream sundae!!!!!! 3 people $20.00......no wonder they got rid of it eh? :lmao:

Wasn't this at the Garden Grill? They could bring it back at $10-$20 per person and people would still go (I would think!) Do you have pics from it? That's the thing we like....going to all the different character meals and getting pics w/ them in all the different outfits. Sooo much fun!!! Sure beats standing in line waiting to meet them.

Chef Mickey's at DTD.. it ws so much nicer than it is now. Mickey milled around ( he was our host once and sat us) and the food was soooo much better.

The old Garden Grill... from 15 years ago or so. Food was better... they had this pot pie that ruined me for all others...

Two questions...do you have pics from the old Chef Mickey's? (It does sound like it was a lot better back then at DTD!)

And back then was GG still a character meal? A pot pie would be delish right now! Mmmm.

I have a friend that is a cast member and we were at the Beach Club and went to get a drink. The bar is right next to Ariel's and i asked why they would close such a beautiful restarant?

His reply was that SO MANY parents assumed by the name that it had something to do with the Little Mermaid or that Ariel would be there and they would book a ADR for the restarant and go dine but when the check came and it being pricey and no Ariel or nothing to do with Little Mermaid they felt jipped and complained to management. Dont know if that is the true reason, but his reply was matter of fact like.

I agree-they had great breakfasts. I won't even go there now, it is horrible.

They do the Grand Gathering Breakfast there now...I just wish it was open to everyone! We're 4 and a baby and you have to have 8 people to do one. Come to think of it, maybe the Dis is a place to find another family to "grand gather" with so you can do all those extras!

I remember getting the coldest and best Welch's grape( purple or white) juice at a spot right where the Fastpass machines are located for Peter Pan. Anyone have any pics of this or remember it's name?? I think it may have been named Hook's Tavern??
