Which extinct WDW restaurant do you miss the most?

I remember when the beirgarten was a sit down table resturant not a buffet. You could order a big plate of weiner snitzel and spaetzle. I also remember alfredos and when the coral reef was better and non princessy norway

The one I miss most is the Adventureland Veranda. I did the "get your picture taken with Captain Jack Sparrow" thing last year so I could walk through the old restaurant. :goodvibes

Also miss:
Akershus the way it used to be, with the hot and cold buffet boards and Norwegian food.

Tusker House and Kusafari Bakery at the AK for a nice counter service.

King Steffan's at the castle.

Plain and Simple (I think that was the name, it was at Wonders of Life) - I remember getting a good fruit smoothie there once before it closed.

(We also miss the chicken that came out of the clock and crowed at the old Sunshine Seasons! Even though the counter service there is still ok, it just doesn't seem the same without that chicken.)

Wish we would have tried:
Bonfamile's - its hard to imagine a whole resort without one table service restaurant!

Ariel's - we've walked by it and it looks just beautiful.

Empress Lilly - I thought it was neat that there was a restaurant named as a tribute to Mrs. Disney, but the new name has never appealed to me.

Crystal Palace - before it became a character buffet.

Wish was still open:
The Odyssey - that place always seemed to be packed! Future World could really use another counter service restaurant.

Pasta Piazza - again, Future World could use another counter service.

Plaza Pavillion - I've never been there when its open as Noodle Station.

El Pirate y el Perrico - open seasonally, but never the season I'm there! Sometimes I'd just like a taco when I'm in the MK.

The Catwalk Bar - I think that's what it was called... above the Brown Derby.

Wish it was like it used to be:
Fountainview - I liked it better with coffee and pastries!

We miss 'Tony's' for breakfast--it was a great start to a MK day. Our absolute favorite CS--'Tuskers House', the salmon , rice and vegetables were wonderful. The BEST counter service ever. Both of these meals were always crowded--don't understand why they had to change--what a mistake!

I really wish that there was a restaurant here again. MK needs another sit down place and this is such a great location. WDW brass, are you listening?

The old Tusker House was counter service and it was wonderful. Not your typical burgers and fries. They had a wonderful chicken sandwich. However, it was the half chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans that kept us hooked. YES, THEY HAD REAL VEGETABLES AT A COUNTER SERVICE!!!!!!!!:rotfl2: This summer we will be trying the new Tusker House (Table Service). I know that Animal Kingdom really needed to vamp up their table food choices, but I was sad to see my favorite counter service take the hit. Well, as long as they leave Flame Tree BBQ alone, I guess we will survive!!!

I couldn't agree more. In my opinion it was one of the best counter services in all of Disney World. For us it was our favorite. And it had Vegan/Vegetarian options that were really, really good.

Is Polly's now closed for good? Last Summer it said open seasonally?

That place is really needed over there!!! I wish the Swan Boats would come back!!! :worried:

That sign has been there for a long time. I think they're waiting for global warming to create a new season, in which it will open. :rotfl:

Disclaimer: I know global warming isn't funny, but the seasonal sign is. Please, don't yell at me.

The one I miss most is the Adventureland Veranda.

I don't remember that one for some reason. :confused3 I'd love to see some pics of the inside to see if they spark a memory.

King Steffan's at the castle.

That name never made sense.

Plaza Pavillion - I've never been there when its open as Noodle Station.

This is a case where they should have left well enough alone.

This would be a GREAT place to add a NEW character enhanced Ice Cream Social!!! :mickeybar

Great idea. :thumbsup2 I'd love to see them bring back the Ice Cream Social.

...and last night while I was researching the Grand Gatherings I came across a special GG event that is held in that Odyssey restaurant. So it's still there somewhere!? They still use it but only for these special events. Where is it??? Is it in the Wonders of Life pavilion? I don't know why they can't make that place usuable! It's in good shape and it's a very unique building. I miss the place!

Odyssey is between Test Track & Mexico on the FW side. There's 1st aide & restrooms there now. As has been noted, it's also used for special events.

Our absolute favorite CS--'Tuskers House', the salmon , rice and vegetables were wonderful. The BEST counter service ever. Both of these meals were always crowded--don't understand why they had to change--what a mistake!

Unfortunately, they've discovered character meals are where the money is, & they intend to squeeze out every dime they can from them. It's understandable, but we think they're going a little CM (buffet) crazy.

Fireworks Factory. They had the best BBQ sauce, as I recall, this was a Levy restaurant and they used the same sauce as Randall’s Rib House in Chicago…we always used to buy a few bottles for home.

Harry’s Safari Bar and Grill in the Dolphin (where Shula’s is now located). The food was good, theme worked, and they severed yards of Bass Ale in real glasses.

Can't remember the name, but in the early 80s I liked the restaurant in the middle of the contemporary for breakfast - I think its where the concourse steakhouse or chef mickeys is now.

I'm also voting for aunt pollys.

I remember this restaurant! It was a dark restaurant and had "real" beef wellington. Leather club chairs. It was a hidden gem.

Shocking as it will be to some it was actually a place when people "dressed" for dinner (besides V&A).
Wish Disney would just have one of those restaurants:sad1:

I would love to know the name!

Without a doubt, Tusker House as a CS. That was honestly the best meal we had last year at WDW.

I miss Bonfamilles. This was the TS at PO French Quarters. It was a small and quiet place to get a good meal. We use to do breakfast and dinners there.

We just stayed at POFQ and said to ourselves that we missed Bonfamilles. THey had a they best crawfish pasta!

took

I would have to agree with many of the above:

Chef Mickeys DTD
Diamond Horseshoe Revue

Especially the CAJUN POPCORN at Muddy Rivers Pool Bar POR (Dixie Landings)!

Tusker House seems to be the most missed place of all! All I can say is that Salmon they had on the CS menu was delicious!!!! Better than at most of the TS's.

I forgot to include one of our favorite BBQ places - The Fireworks Factory. The ribs were great! A great themed atmosphere.

I miss the counter service at Tusker House the most. Had great meals there at least twice every trip. Although Tony's in the MK is still there, they no longer serve the wonderful breakfast menu!

I don't get why MK doesn't bring back the Breakfast at Tony's for everyone! They could really make big $$$ if they put some HTF characters in there. If nothing else Lady and the Tramp, since it's themed after them.

The place in adventureland....where you meet Jack Sparrow.....what kind of food did that restaurant sell? I remember eating in there years ago but don't remember it in detail. Adventureland could use a TS!

I have fond memories of the Coral Isle Cafe at the Polynesian, now the Kona Cafe. Still a decent menu but the polynesian spare ribs were my favorite, and now they are gone!

Does anyone remember the Cream of Chicken soup they had on the menu? (back in the 80's) We used to go and just get bowls of that for dinner!!

It was SOOOOO good!

We found the recipe in an old Disney dining cookbook. We make it all the time.

Post it please!!!! I would love to see old restaurant pics! When we went our our honeymoon we meant to do the character breakfast at the soundstage with our item of choice (from the package). Somehow we ended up at Hollywood and Vine (no characters). :( I wish we were addicts back then like we are now! We sure missed out on a lot in those early years!

Empress Lilly sounds like it was a blast!!! I wish they'd do something like that again on the lake & it could load at the Wilderness Lodge.

My husband would kill me! It was when we first got engaged, circa 1992, he still had his 'Richard Marx' hair... :rotfl2:

I miss Tangaroa Terrace at the Poly Resort.. it was a good restaurant to come back from the parks and just sit down and have something to eat.. I always liked the lighting and they served great breakfasts, it was where we had our first stuffed French Toast..
