Which extinct WDW restaurant do you miss the most?

We ate there when I was little too!!! I don't remember it, but we have tons of pictures from it!

Post them!!!! I would love to see them! I am on a retro Disney kick! Can you tell? I spent 8 hours watching the old rides on you tube a couple of nights ago. :rotfl2:

I have fond memories of the Coral Isle Cafe at the Polynesian, now the Kona Cafe. Still a decent menu but the polynesian spare ribs were my favorite, and now they are gone!

I remember a character breakfast in downtown disney before it was all built up like it is now.. Back in 1985? I think it was called chef mickey back then. You got a Chef Mickey hat....OMG that was a long time ago

Oh I forgot about the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon! Goodness that place was fun! My mum and I used to go on every trip! Soooo fun! And good milkshakes too! Oh....I miss it too now....:(

It wasn't a restaurant per se, just a snack stand, but I loved Aunt Polly's on Tom Sawyer's Island. It was a great place to get some ice cream, sit on the covered dock, and watch the crowds in Liberty Square and Frontierland (while listening to the sound effects from the Haunted Mansion).

I miss Sleepy Hollow from years ago when they served the best chicken salad "handwiches." They were so good - sort of a cone shaped bread filled with the best chicken salad. The chicken salad would just be pouring out of the bread and you had to first eat that with a fork before you could pick up the handwich and eat it.

Like previous posters, I too miss the old Tuskar House, but we are eating at the new one in July and I'm anxious to see how it is.

Miss the baked potato stand at the old Sunshine Seasons (or whatever it was called) in The Land at Epcot.

I miss the Odysey!! They had the cutest little stage show and then the characters came around to the tables, and it was a CS! Plus the lemon pie was AMAZING!!!

Why did they ever close??? Every time we went (late 80's, early 90's) it was PACKED!

They do the Grand Gathering Breakfast there now...I just wish it was open to everyone! We're 4 and a baby and you have to have 8 people to do one. Come to think of it, maybe the Dis is a place to find another family to "grand gather" with so you can do all those extras!

OT, but I'd also love to go as a GG sometime. There's only 3 of us & our friends & family who do got to WDW wouldn't participate in the special events. :( I'd like to do Tony's breakfast too, but most of all I'd like to be able to book an Illuminations Dessert package.

Back on topic..... We must be the only family that didn't enjoy Soundstage. It was too loud for us, & we thought the food was subpar. :confused3

I remember Diamond Horseshoe Saloon having a silly, but fun, shtick & serving sandwiches, ice cream, etc. a la carte. It was a really fun place for lunch, & a scheduled break from the heat. :thumbsup2 Was it ever anything more than that, like a dinner show w/ more than sandwiches? Just curious. :)

I remember it being at MK, but don't remember attending it. It was similar to Hoop Dee Doo right? I bet it was really great there.

Yes, just the food wasn't a dinner just snack type food. I don't understand why WDW keeps it empty. There seem to be more and more areas cropping up like this. River country, the Health attractions at EPCOT and Odyessy, Aint Polly's to name a few. I don't know why they are left empty.

Alfredo's was our favorite restaurant of all time. We also loved the Steerman's Quarters aboard the Empress Lilly, and the Papete Bay at the Poly which is now Ohana. There is still plenty of good food at WDW, but some of those old places really added to the complete WDW experience.:earsboy:

I loved Bonfamille at Port Orleans. For an old time New Englander, who rarely gets the chance to eat cajun-style food, their menu was outstanding.

We miss breakfast at Tony's in the MK. It was a tradition for us to have breakfast there on every trip. We also enjoyed eating at Bonfamille's at POFQ.

If you look at the Disneyland guide they have a couple of cajun places inside the park. That would be something to nice to have at our MK too! It seems like the parks are very limited in restaurant choices (other than Epcot). I'd love to see a broader selection more like these older places you all are mentioning. I wish now we had tried more of them before they went away. :worried:

This would be a GREAT place to add a NEW character enhanced Ice Cream Social!!! :mickeybar

...and last night while I was researching the Grand Gatherings I came across a special GG event that is held in that Odyssey restaurant. So it's still there somewhere!? They still use it but only for these special events. Where is it??? Is it in the Wonders of Life pavilion? I don't know why they can't make that place usuable! It's in good shape and it's a very unique building. I miss the place!

We're 5 but one is under 3 and is still free. Maybe one of these days we can convince our F & F to join us for a Magical Gathering down there! I would love to try out all of those specialty dinners and the MK breakfast.

Can't remember the name, but in the early 80s I liked the restaurant in the middle of the contemporary for breakfast - I think its where the concourse steakhouse or chef mickeys is now.

I'm also voting for aunt pollys.

Is Polly's now closed for good? Last Summer it said open seasonally?

That place is really needed over there!!! I wish the Swan Boats would come back!!! :worried:

"Seasonally" seems to mean "TBD." I haven't seen it open at any time during the past two years. They have now placed vending machines in front of the counter.

Like a few of you said, breakfast at Tony's Town Square was GREAT! I remember doing that a bunch of times :goodvibes Too bad it's not still there.

I do have a bunch of pics from the Soundstage Restaurant, around the year 93 or so. I'll have to scan them and post 'em later!

Anybody else have pics for now? ;)
