Which extinct WDW restaurant do you miss the most?

I almost forgot about the little egg roll cart in adventureland I think. They used to have the little hot dog rolls and growing up we would always stop there and get a few and rest in that alcove behind the cart and eat. They were yummy with the duck sauce.

When DH and I went together for the first time I drug him all over adventureland looking for the cart and they didn't have the hotdog ones anymore. I was so sad. They were so good and a great not too heavy lunch.

Oh I miss Alfredo's......so good! I also miss the soundstage restaurant at MGM. We went there for the character meals and they were so much fun!

Tangaroa Terrace at the Poly. It was our favorite breakfast place!

I could swear the Tonga Toast was different back then. I thought it was better than the Tonga Toast we have today.

As far as CS, we always enjoyed "Odyssey" at Epcot. I know they still use the building for special events during F&W. The toppings bar beat everything else around.

When it came to TS it would have to be "Fireworks Factory" at DTD. The ribs were excellent and the tollhouse cookie dessert would satisfy my large sweet tooth.:rotfl: :rotfl:

I remember seeing Odyssey listed in the "official" guidebook, but it was permanently closed for a while by then.

But since we all remember the Fireworks Factory, and remember having good food there, I have to wonder how such a great restaurant closed so quickly? It's a crying shame. I do miss it.

The old Tusker House was counter service and it was wonderful. Not your typical burgers and fries. They had a wonderful chicken sandwich. However, it was the half chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans that kept us hooked. YES, THEY HAD REAL VEGETABLES AT A COUNTER SERVICE!!!!!!!!:rotfl2:

OMG yes we will miss that one too! They had the best CS ever! It closed during our trip last year if I'm not mistaken. We managed to get in on AK day 1 though. We have an ADR for breakfast on our next visit. I hope it still as yummy!

We enjoyed Fireworks Factory too. We still talk about it everytime we walk through PI.

I'm sorry we never made it to Jolly Holidays Dinner Show @ CR, Top of the World & Tony's breakfast.

Was this Top of the World place where CA grill is now? It was a dinner show? Sounds kind of cool. Would love to hear more about it. :)

I know that Animal Kingdom really needed to vamp up their table food choices, but I was sad to see my favorite counter service take the hit. Well, as long as they leave Flame Tree BBQ alone, I guess we will survive!!!

We miss the old Tusker House too :(
At least Flame Tree BBQ doesn't seem to be changing, I just wish their lines moved a bit faster :P

I personally miss the old Sunshine Country Fair (or whatever) that used to be in the land. The new Seasons is higher quality food but I liked the Mickeyroni at the old CS :(

I think you're referring to the "Empress Lily" Riverboat restaurant. We had a character breakfast there in 1983 when I was 8 years old. Goofy "ate" my head, I'll never forget it! Of course, I can't remember what the food was like though.

Thank you! I had memories of eating a character breakfast near or on the water at DTD when I was 5, but they were so vague I couldn't tell if I was meshing different moments together. It's been bugging me for months, but now I know! It was Empress Lily's!

I'm still upset about this turning over into a TS restaurant too. The Tusker House was one of the best CS restaurants in any of the parks, and for my taste, really good CS is hard to find. Switching the restaurant to a buffet has made the dining options over in that park a little unbalanced. And given that AK closes at around dinner time more often than not (sometimes as early as 5pm), I question how much the park really needs 3 TS restaurants. I think 2 would have been sufficient. We have lunch an ADR for the new buffet in October, but more because we're a little underwhelmed with AK's remaining CS options. We're not big on barbeque so Flame Tree is out, and we won't touch CS pizza at Disney so no Pizzafari either. That doesn't leave us with a lot of options.

:earboy2: Great topic! We really miss the Fort Wilderness character breakfast, Breakfast with Melvin the Moose! This was a terrific breakfast show in the same place that Hoop-Dee-doo is held, and we loved it! Speaking of Fort Wilderness, does anyone remember the guitar player and make your own pizza in the evenings at Trail's End?

Dreadfully miss the old Akerhaus buffet with hot and cold all you can eat very authentic food. It was one of our favorites and we never missed going several times each stay. We've only been once since the princesses took over, what a change! So sad, wish they would keep just one meal princess-free and bring back the traditional hot and cold buffet!

Also miss the Adventureland Veranda hosted by Kikkoman, cs in the building to the right as you enter Adventureland with delicious teriyaki burgers, egg rolls, fried rice and South Seas fruit salad and then the cupcakes sold at stands in Mickey’s Birthdayland and tofutti and date pecan cookies in the place that is now Aunty Gravity's in Tomorrowland! :mickeyjum

It's so funny the ones I thought of first when I opened this thread were repeated time and time again...Chef Mickey's at DTD, Alfredo's at Epcot, the Sound Stage at MGM (have a great pic of my husband and I with Belle and the Beast from there!) and The Empress Lilly at DTD. But especially Chef Mickey's -- I loved that place!

Oh how I miss this we had the best time and there were character all for an ice cream sundae!!!!!! 3 people $20.00......no wonder they got rid of it eh? :lmao:

I've always been curious about Flagler's. Did cuisine compare favorably to what's offered at Disney's other restaurants today?

It was an upscale Italian restaurant. The food was fantastic. It was one of the best Italian meals I've ever had at WDW.

It's not really a restaurant, but we will miss the Beaver Tails at the stand in front of Canada (haven't been back since we heard they got rid of them). Those were the BEST, a piece of dough hand shaped into a flat "beaver tail", then fried, and then your choice of toppings. We loved the sugar dipped and squeezed with fresh lemon juice one. My DH is most upset they don't have these anymore.

Oh my god, this sounds delicious! :faint: :lmao: I've heard about this place in Canada, and everybody says it was the best!

I also wish they hadn't gotten rid of SoundStage Restaurant. A great character meal, and the cool thing was they changed what characters were there with every new year or new Disney movie. Great idea. :thumbsup2 I remember during the Beauty and the Beast phase, on the second floor of the restaurant they had the vase with the rose in it.

Chef Mickey's at DTD.. it ws so much nicer than it is now. Mickey milled around ( he was our host once and sat us) and the food was soooo much better.
The old Sunshine Fair in the Land. They had those handwiches that are extinct now too... yummy.
The old Garden Grill... from 15 years ago or so. Food was better... they had this pot pie that ruined me for all others...

The places still exist, but they are different or took the best stuff away....

1) Tusker House - WHY??? Why did they have to get rid of this? I am devastated.

2) Even before that - the stand at AK that used to sell chicken sate skewers (like spicy peanut chicken). I know, I know, some people are allergic to peanuts. Sorry, but do we all have to be punished???

3) I mentioned this before - they got rid of my favorite Dinosaur Gertie's item ever almost immediately after DHS/MGM opened. Chocolate covered frozen cheesecake on a stick. Those things were so good, I ate like 4 or 5 in one day instead of meals.

4) Tabouleh wrap with marinated tomatoes at the ABC Commissary in DHS - when it was warm out, this was the best!!! Fortunately, the counter service in Morocco at Epcot still has yummy stuff like this...

I weep for the loss....

I don't remember a whole lot about Top of the World. But yes it was a dinner show. I'm thinking glitter, top hats and dancing of some sort? I was young. I just liked getting dressed up for dinner and feeling like a big girl when I got my Shirley Temple, and of course the fireworks from the outside patio. But I guess my parents liked it alot because we went almost every trip I think.

ETA: I guess I don't remember as much as I thought. It was Top of the World until it was replaced in 1993 by CA Grill. But it apparently only had a show until 1981. Since I was only 5 in 1981 I probably don't accurately remember much about the show.

I agree. I used to love the old Akershus, especially all the smoked salmon and other fish. I haven't been since they changed it to a character meal. I don't have any kids, so it's not all that appealing to me. Definitely miss this one!
