Which extinct WDW restaurant do you miss the most?

I have to say Ariels, it was my first ever meal at WDW. It was beautiful - I also heard when I was working at epcot that they closed because of the name confusion but that always struck me as odd I mean they could have changed the name and kept the restaurant so there has to be another reason.

Anyone remember the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon??????

YES! They had Claude Dogs. :) With my (VERY) southern accent, the poor waitress from NJ (if I remember right) had no clue what I was asking for. I finally pointed to it on the menu to be able to order it! Then, she rolled her eyes and said, "Oh, you mean Clod dahgs." My dad was laughing up a torm & "explained" later that she was just teasing me. That no one really said it that way. :) I really like that place.

The old Tusker House was counter service and it was wonderful. Not your typical burgers and fries. They had a wonderful chicken sandwich. However, it was the half chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans that kept us hooked. YES, THEY HAD REAL VEGETABLES AT A COUNTER SERVICE!!!!!!!!:rotfl2: This summer we will be trying the new Tusker House (Table Service). I know that Animal Kingdom really needed to vamp up their table food choices, but I was sad to see my favorite counter service take the hit. Well, as long as they leave Flame Tree BBQ alone, I guess we will survive!!!

Ohhhh Man! I didn't know that Tusker House was TS now! I loved the healthy CS stuff you could get. Sometimes a TS just doesn't fit into your lunchtime schedule and this fit the bill perfectly!

Sooo Sad.
:worried:

My husband would kill me! It was when we first got engaged, circa 1992, he still had his 'Richard Marx' hair... :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: Well I'm sure that hair style is extinct now too. I recently posted old pics of me from River Country about 10 years ago. :lmao:

Ask him...tell him we're all forgiving and that was the thing to do then. Just think about those old pics and promos Billy Ray Cyrus has to look at all the time! Now THAT is bad! :rotfl2:

Does anyone remember the Cream of Chicken soup they had on the menu? (back in the 80's) We used to go and just get bowls of that for dinner!!

It was SOOOOO good!

We found the recipe in an old Disney dining cookbook. We make it all the time.

This sounds good! Wanna share that receipe with us? ;)

I'd have to say the one that used to be at the French Quarter. Bon Famalies, or something like that. Now there is no table service restaurant at the French Quarter, and that hurts a bit because otherwise it's my favorite resort.

:wizard: Karnak

The Concourse Steakhouse and the Food & Fun Center at the Contemporary. However I am sure The Wave is going to be a good restaurant and Chef Mickey's Express should be a good replacement for a counter service location.

As far as CS, we always enjoyed "Odyssey" at Epcot. I know they still use the building for special events during F&W. The toppings bar beat everything else around.

When it came to TS it would have to be "Fireworks Factory" at DTD. The ribs were excellent and the tollhouse cookie dessert would satisfy my large sweet tooth.:rotfl: :rotfl:

Hubby and I ate at the Fireworks Factory in 1994 and LOVED it!! We had the "Food & Fun" card (sure do miss THAT disney meal plan!) and ended up ordering 2 of the Tollhouse cookie desserts because we were entitled to 2 desserts on our plan. Server never even batted an eye. About 10 minutes later there was a huge fanfare, lights started flashing and a parade came from the kitchen towards are table! The next thing we know the entire waitstaff and kitchen staff are surrounding us and they set the 2 HUGE desserts on our table. Our server then comments, "We've never had 2 ordered for a table of 2 before!" :lmao: yea, he could have warned us how big they were. The sparklers and the extra pot of fudge on the side really made the dessert. The kids at the table next to us almost fell over when they saw the desserts! Since we couldn't possible finish one, much less two, we sent one over to there table. Hubby and I still talk about it over 14 years later! :rotfl2:

I also miss Empress Lilly's character meal and the Original Chef Mickey's at DTD.

What a great thread! -Jennie

Another vote for the Adventureland Veranda. It was sponsored by Kikkoman. They had the best Teriyaki Chicken sandwiches and Polynesian Burgers!!!

That's exactly what I think everytime my daughter puts on Hannah Montana -- who ever thought Billy Ray Cyrus would be COOL?!!!!:lmao:

Season's at the old Disney Institute.

I remember when the beirgarten was a sit down table resturant not a buffet. You could order a big plate of weiner snitzel and spaetzle. I also remember alfredos and when the coral reef was better and non princessy norway

Although I still love the Biergarten buffet, I also remember how good the sit down service was! They had an awesome soup/stew with beans, lentils, and barley (or something like that). Served it with a great dark brown bread. Yummy!

What a nice thread. It does make you remember past trips and the memories attached to these places. Every year the "old" WDW seems to slip away a little more.

I have such vivid memories being little on Tom Sawyer Island running around like crazy and getting to have a peanut butter sandwich for lunch .. how perfect is that? I guess kids don't make believe as much now and they have to have all processed adventures.

We also loved Fireworks factory and closing it for that god awful western dance hall was crazy. I remember going with my parents to the Empress Lilly and how fancy is was. It was THE fancy nice dinner place at WDW when it was just MK. I believe there are a few websites that have lots of pictures of the old Disney Village. How little we knew during the construction of an exciting night time entertainment area the world would change.

I too miss the OLD The Land food court, I used to like getting that baked potatoe. Soarin just made it crazy down there there.

All mentioned were great places

And back then was GG still a character meal? A pot pie would be delish right now! Mmmm.

No.. it was just a nice calm revolving restaurant. I remember you got this statue of mickey made out of butter that I thought was so great.. all I could ever eat of it was his foot...
The pot pie was sooo good... I went back 3 times on a trip to get one.. then the next year it was off the menu... sigh... now I want pot pie

I haven't read the whole thread but dh and I used to love getting a caesar salad or a brownie and coke at the Diamond Horseshoe Jamboree. The food was only ok, but the show was absolutely wonderful!!

When my DW and I went in 1988 we didn't know it at the time that she was pregnant with our first DD. This was the only meal she liked the whole week.:rotfl2: . We ate there 3 times.

Tusker House CS
I really missed the salmon during my last visit :(

I miss Disney Village, too. The first time we went to Disney we stayed at Disney Village, it was amazing! We had this beautiful patio with a view of the woods and the treehouse villas, and Mickey was etched into the patio door glass. And I really loved the Empress Lily. You're right, it really is so nice to remember past trips and those memories. But for (almost) everything that disappears something new pops up that we love and one day we'll reminisce about that place, too. It's the magic of Disney.

King Stephan's Banquet Hall....my Mom and I used to eat there from 1977-1980! Fantastic meal at Fantastic Prices...BEFORE it became a character meal!
