Which DVC for 15 nights? large family

They are wanting to spread out and have some room which is very important. I suggest renting offsite but that is a no go for them, they want to be on site.

They are trying to secure a Grand Villa, which is their 1st choice...... but in saying that if they can't make it happen they are thinking maybe of going the 2 room route, renting a 1 bedroom and a 2 bedroom dvc, having the girls share the 1 bedroom and in the 2 bedroom my friend and her DH in the master bed room and then put there son in the other bedroom. Then they would use the living area in the 2 bedroom for having people come and visit.

Do you think that it is even possible that if they have to go with renting 2 units, that they can get them close to each other. What would be the best way to request this? or any tips would be appreciated.

While a GV might be their preference, they're going to meet with many obstacles in an attempt to rent one for such a long period. PPs have already mentioned some of the issues. I agree with them and I will add that not every DVC resort has GVs and some will only have a handful. There are no GVs at BCV, Poly or Boulder Ridge (formerly known as VWL). They will have greater success if they choose OKW or SSR and are visiting during a DVC slow period.

I'll also add that they could go with a studio + 2-bedroom if the girls are willing to share a room. It would give them more resort choices (Poly would still be a no-go) and a greater possibility of success. OKW studios have 2 "real" beds, as opposed to 1 queen and 1 sleeper sofa like other DVC studios. Even if you book using different owners, you can ask that Member Services make a note on each reservation that they are "traveling with" the other reservation in the hopes of the units being near each other. Being assigned units near each other is not guaranteed. Even if requested, it's possible they could be assigned units on different floors, or in the case of SSR and OKW even separate sections of the resort.

The rental brokers can't combine points from several owners. Each owner makes a reservation and retains control of it until the renter checks in. If you think of it as renting a reservation instead of "renting points" you get a better understanding of how the rental process works.

And doing point transfers is a nuisance, as you still can only do one in or out per year, and when you need a LOT of points that may not be enough. I don't know a lot of owners who would do a lot of this for a completely unknown renter, and the agencies have so much demand for points they don't need to try to do all of this (and, frankly, shouldn't -- because they could probably get 5-6 families booked for the points and effort vs. one, even though the profit margin would be similar).

If I were the OP's friends, I would go with David's DVC Rentals and let him handle it all. Here is the cost calculator: http://www.dvcrequest.com/cost-calculator.asp . David will still probably have to split the stay between multiple DVC members since a 2BR at BWV/BCV is about 550 points and a 1BR is about 400 points (a studio is about 200 points and a GV is about 1100 points) for 2 weeks in "Adventure" season which is the cheapest time to go.

2 bedroom at BLT or, BC. I prefer YC actually, but they're pretty much the same and for that age the kids can walk to 2 parks, or walk and then monorail to MK. Personally, I'd inquire if the Swolphin does some corporate housing. I love those resorts, and they'd probably be more reasonable and if they're life other Starwood/Marriott corp. housing, AMAZING!

We are a family of 5 (soon to be 6) and we also stay in grand villas to ensure we have our own space. I don't like anyone sharing beds or sleeping in the living room - my kids just don't sleep well that way. I will say that if they want a grand villa, it might be beneficial to split their time between two different ones, for a change of scenery. The GV at AKL seems to be the easiest to book as a cash reservation. If they're renting points, it's unlikely they'll find an owner with enough points to rent for the entire stay.

Their problem with renting is getting one owner with enough points to book a one bedroom and a two bedroom for 15 nights. They will probably need multiple owners and then connecting them or getting them near to each other becomes a nightmare. A GV for 15 nights via renting is going to be very hard. That's a whole lot of points. Now if they are paying cash, they can probably do anything they want. Including getting a suite at the GF or one of the other deluxe resorts.

When is this all happening? That will also play into the whole "renting points" issue.

Mid January 2018, I think he doesn't take on the new project until March 2018, so they do have some wiggle room. I know it sounds crazy about wanting to have a lot of space, but they have lived all over the world, and normally live in a guarded expat community, normally small condos, with a lot of amenities, but normally very small. This time they are really lucky there will be 4 bedrooms, now they are the size of really a large walk in closet except the master and it is very nice( happy wife happy life). They are super creative on making the most room out of no space. So space is an important part of vacation for them.

Would they consider that non Disney property that is on Disney grounds? For the life of me I can't remember it's name now (sad but true)
We will only stay on property but if we did ever have a reason to need a bigger property I would consider staying there. I'd have to have a car but otherwise, it's got all the same appeal that on site does. Well, no dining plan I guess. That would work out to be cheaper for them anyway.

If they did want a 1 BR and a 2 BR can they get those cash from Disney? I know 1 BR are but not sure about 2 BR. Do they have to rent points?

TBH, you are already late to try to request DVC for mid-January. While that is the start of Dvc's lower demand season, the sort of units and point quantity you need are challenging and several of the units you would be interested in are already booked. You are also rapidly nearing 7 months, which is a key time when availability at many resorts begins acquiring holes.

I am not saying it is impossible, because at least it is mid-January, but you may find the best chances at Saratoga and AKV, rather than resorts like BWV or BLT.

As you're close to 7 months, you might be able to get a GV at Kidani, almost certainly at SSR, probably at VGF (which is as expensive as a Poly bungalow). A Poly bungalow would be an option, if you could find someone with enough points to book one for 15 days (not a small feat). OKW and BWV are almost certainly not available for a 15-night stretch, and BLT is likely also gone or going quick. No one knows what the cabins or GV at CCV will book like, but they're priced in the same point ranges so you'd need well over 1000 points to book 15 nights.

I still maintain the biggest problem is getting 1,000+ points for the stay...

They are not being picky were they staying...their goal 1st staying on property, 2nd where ever they can get a Grand Villa, and they are up for changing resort mid stay. They are using the company travel liaison, my friend says she has magically powers, and has always made impossible happen. They are working on it right now. So we will see...

The travel liaison is working every angel that they can, so more of a corporate booking then just a family trying to book. I did not ask my friend directly, but I have a feeling that the company is paying for all the accommodations and flights while they are on holiday. I say this as they begged her DH to take this next project, threw a ton of money at them, and really want them to be happy ( which means her as in happy wife happy life), and she has said that she's not worried about the cost let them worry about it. They are working on it right now... So they hopefully will have it all nailed down by Wednesday.

Still doesn't make finding a single owner with 500+ or 1000+ points for a DVC booking easy, and Disney do not generally have GVs available cash. Sometimes Treehouses, but rarely GVs. It's inherent in the rules and legal documents of DVC.

Are the big suites DVC? Like the Roy Disney Suite or the Presidential Suite? I know little about them other than they exist and are not posted on the website
