Hi Super-Smart DIS experts!

We're taking a family of 7, including 3 30-somethings (DH, BIL and me), a 9 year old, a 12 year old (our DNi and DNe) and their grandparents? DH's step-father (Grandpa), had a stroke last year and tires out kinda easily, so I'd rather not wear him down just getting to and from transportation.

We did AKL last time (loved it!), so we'd like to try something new.

I hope not everyone is too sick of this question to help me out-- I know it's a popular one. :D

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

I would stay in the CR, a tower if you can swing it.

Everything would be "up & down". You can get a room with a real nice view of either MK or the lake. If the tower is to expensive for you, the garden rooms are lovely. The walk is not bad.

The pool area would be perfect for older kids.

I have also stayed at WL. It's a very lovely family resort. If they would guarentee a room over the lobby, then the walk would not be far at all. (Maybe since it's a medical reason, Disney would guarentee a certain room location.) The rooms in the wings are not too far either.

But for the least amount of "hotel walking" the CR tower is the way to go.

I agree that a tower room at CR would probably be best for your group. Next on my list is BWI with a request for a room close to the elevator. -HM

We recently returned from five days at the GF with a party of 10, including my mother who used a wheelchair (brought from home) much of the time. The GF worked well and the use of the monorail was great (they are very accommodating to handicap passengers. GF would work well if you like MK and Epcot.

Have you considered renting a wheelchair or ecv (electric scooter) for him? That way, you won't have to worry about him walking so much.
Here are the off-site places that DIS posters report renting from:

Is is also possible to get a wheelchair loaned by the resort for your length of stay. Some people have had good luck with those; others have found the only wheelchair that was available was a wrong size or not in good condition. People have reported as little as 2 hours to as much as a few days to get a more appropriate wheelchair. That's why a lot of people choose to rent from off-site.

I would consider which park you will be spending most time at. If it's MK, the MK resorts would be your best choice. If it's Epcot or MGM, the Epcot resorts would be better.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the monorails are easy access from the MK resorts, but at MK and the TTC, there is a very long steep ramp to go up or down to/from the monorail station.
