Considering staying at DD hotel for first time ever. Royal Plaza has great rate through MouseSavers.
DH cannot walk long distance without stopping (uses cane).

Wondering if walk from hotel to Market Place is too far for him.
Which of the DD hotels is closer?

Can anyone compare the walk from DD hotels to Market Place with the walk into any of the parks from the Disney bus stop at that park?

The Grosvenor is the closest to the Marketplace, Hilton coming in 2nd. Going out of the Grosvenor, you take a right and walk to the main intersection (lighted),about a 5 minute leisurely walk. The first store you can see is Once upon a Toy Store. The resort bus stop is also right next to this area so it is easy to use the disney buses, get off at Marketplace Downtown and walk back to Grosvenor IF you were visiting another resort. We figured this out on one of our trips and it really paid off! I would say it is a bit farther a walk, than getting off a disney bus and going into a park. And the Downtown buses do let you off farther away than the WDW buses, so please that into consideration for your spouse.
I would base my decision on what's most important: walking distances or being Downtown

Hi vacationwoman,

DTD is a 10 min walk from Hotel Royal Plaza and i'm in good walking shape. Like CARRIE0604 said the Grosvenor is the closest to the Marketplace, but I don't recomend staying their, it's not that great.

We've stayed at the Hilton a few times and it's right across the street from DTD, it was about a 5 minute walk, you enter DTD right by the new Once Upon a Toy store.

We really enjoyed the Hilton, stayed through Priceline all 3 times for 70/a night. The Hilton was very nice, friendly staff, 2 great hot tubs and 2 huge pools. They also have restaurants and a small Disney Store in the lobby, we really liked it there. I think Mary also offers a Mousesavers rate at her site if you don't feel comfortable using Priceline.

The Hilton is also the only DTD resort to offer entrance into Disney's Extra Magic Hour times(early entry).

The closest would be the Grovesnor, the Wyndham Palace or the Hilton.

Have a great vacation!

We stayed at the Hilton. I'm sure it has the shortest walk to the Marketplace, maybe 200 yards or a little more.

You walk maybe 2-3 minutes from the hotel's lobby to the traffic light where you can cross the street, then another 2-3 minutes across DTD parking lot.

The walk concern is more about the heat than the distance.:sunny:

What about the Hiliday Inn. We are canceling Grosvenor. To stay at Holiday Inn. Everyone says Grosvenor is not so nice

the Holiday inn use to be the Marriott Courtyard - some people loved it others hated it.

Appreciate everyone's input. This is a great place for answers to anything.

I've decided it doesn't sound like DD is a good option regardless of price savings. (unless I want to carry DH, lol)

Guess we'll just have to suffer and stay in a WDW resort as usual.

Thanks again for your responses.

We stayed at the Grosvenor, never again. The rooms are so noisy. You can hear the people in the rooms above, below and beside you. The doors also slam shut with a bang. There for a week, almost left in the middle but couldn't get an other hotel on short notice.

Have stayed at the Holiday Inn a number of times when it was the CourtYard. loved it. One problem,if you get up late in the am don't get a room down low overlooking the front driveway. you can hear the busses coming and going. try for the main tower overlooking the pool area or the north side.

If not staying on Disney property, for the money I would stay at the Holiday Inn. :bounce:

GILTPRDSDM, Thank you so much for your opionon. We have ressies at the Grosvenor, but I am going to cancel. Not very many people like that hotel. Here is our background on our trip. Doing the Land/Sea package. We will be at the Beach club for 4 days then on the Wonder for 3 days. We decided to leave 3 days early and stay around DTD. We will not be doing parks on these days. We want to relax do some shopping, resort hop to see all that they offer and eat some good food. Right know the cheapest places are the Grosvenor and Holiday Inn. We are already spending a fortune on the Land Sea package so we don't want to spend 150 or more a night to stay extra days, but we want to have a nice hotel. Thanks alot Brenda

when are you going?

the SSR is still being built - but by the end of May it should be up and going.

However - the demand for this resort will be big - it is new and alot of members want to try it out.

You can rent points from a DVC member and save you some money. On this board just goto the DVC rental/trade. (you need to go back to the first dis boards - it is toward the bottom).

We will be there April 29th through May 9th. I just found a great rate on Mousesavers for the Royal Hotel. What do you think? I am going to put a post out front on it. Thank you Brenda

Make sure they put you in the tower room at the Royal Plaza. People seem to like those but not the poolside rooms.

Sounds like the Royal Plaza may have the same issues as the Grovsvenor and only maintain the better rooms. Tower rooms were very good on our stay at the Grosvenor in January.

The Hilton, Wyndham, and Grovsvenor are definitely the shortest walks to the Marketplace, but the buses do operate there from any of the DTD hotels... We enjoyed the 5 minute walk to DTD, that's for sure...

To the original poster:

If you do decide to stay in DTD remember that the bus is always a nice option. There are busses that run to all the parks every 1/2 hour and pick you up right in front of the hotel. In the evening the busses run to DTD as well and do so until 1am. Additionally, it cost like nothing to take a taxi there. It really is right across the street.

Just my two cents. :D
