Which conspiracy theories do you believe?

Think about it. You really think the government is going to plan these elaborate fake events but be so stupid that they use all the same people as victims?
That is what cracks me up about this theory of crisis actors. They are apparently using the same actors over and over and over again. Don't get me wrong, I think our politicians are idiots most of the time, but even they aren't that dumb. Is the "crisis actor" pool that shallow that they couldn't get different actors for different disasters? And these "actors", don't even change their look from one event to another. Just because someone resembles someone else, doesn't mean they are the same person. :smooth:

No, it's really not believable at all.
I just wasted 1 hour of my time looking at pictures of people who are apparently in on it. Different noses and chins and mouths. But because they have have the same hair color and length and are about the same age.............IT HAS TO BE THE SAME PERSON!! :headache:

It really does take a special kind of stupid to believe that one. The sole purpose of these actors would be to be noticed and photographed in order to lend credence to the hoax. But our evil gubmint doesn't even think to slap a wig on them?

I find conspiracy theories depressing.

Yes, there's been some real conspiracies and scandals. After all, all a "conspiracy" is, is an agreement between two or more people to commit a crime. So, you can have a conspiracy to rob a bank. Or a conspiracy to kill Hitler.

Conspiracy "theories" on the other hand rest on some really poisonous psychological foundations.

1. The belief that nothing happens by chance. Think about that for a moment. Can you imagine living with this as a core, fundamental belief? If someone cuts you off in traffic - they did it on purpose to hurt you.

2. The belief that nothing is as it seems. Which is pretty much a recipe for misery. How can any of us be content living in a world where we have to fight for even the barest shred of truth or certainty? No one can ever be trusted.

3. The belief that everything is connected. And not in the "we're all one with the Universe" sense of the world. But rather, that there is meaning and purpose and organization behind every scrap of seemingly disconnected information. We all look for meaning and order in our world, but conspiracy theorizing takes that natural human instinct to illogical extremes.

We love puzzles. It's what human beings are - puzzle-solvers. Making connections and finding patterns makes us feel good. Dabbling in conspiracy theories can even be entertaining, sometimes, for all that the three core beliefs are fundamentally illogical (yes, chance IS a real factor, yes, if it looks like a horse it's probably NOT a zebra, and yes, coincidence really IS a thing).

But like all fun pastimes, when taken to excess, it becomes destructive. The avid conspiracy theorist is like the religious zealot anticipating Armageddon, is like the bodybuilder with zero body fat who is in constant pain but still keeps trying to get more "cut", is like the anorexic who looks at herself and sees fat where others see only skin and bone.

And people get hurt. Victims are accused, mourning relatives are viciously attacked, and the theorists themselves begin to see themselves as being under siege by massively powerful malevolent forces.

Anyway, that's why conspiracy theories make me sad. I used to like them when I was a kid, but not any more. I've seen too much misery come out of them, to find any pleasure in it any more.

I know someone who says Barack Obama is a gay Muslim, his wife is a trans gender male to female and that Bill Clinton was/is involved with a child pornography ring that has sex parties on some Caribbean island and that his wife Hillary is in on it.

Serious, not kidding. Says it will all come out. I asked, 'Are you serious?' They said 'Yes'.

I just saw a post on fb about the Challenger Disaster.. this was one of the comments on it.. WOW!

"I urge everyone who reads this to do some research...
The Challenger shuttle DID explode, but the actor-nauts were not on board. Most of them are still alive and several are still using their same names. This is merely another lie shoved down all of our throats for the past 30 yrs by the people that pull the strings.
Please research it. Open your eyes. Everything we "know" is a lie."

What a nut job!

My first question would be for what purpose would they do that? What exactly did they gain from doing that? And why would they be so stupid as to let them use the same names? And why is it every single person that has seen them doesn't recognize either them or the name and expose it?

I had some guy in the store come up to me and start talking. By the way if they say anything other than excuse me do you know where the pickles are or something like that it is always a bad sign. They will nearly without fail be some sort of nut. The only question will be whether they're a mild nut or a total whacko or somewhere in between.

He starts of friendly enough but then here it comes. The media doesn't want you to know this.........

All the while I'm thinking. Where the heck have you been buddy under a rock? The media actually covered it well beyond the point of saturation last week.

Wow. I didn't know the was a Challenger conspiracy theory. Again, how disgusting.
It's always the same narrative with these nuts; they found out the truth and the rest of us are stupid sheep, to blind to see. In reality, they are just believing some random person on the internet. Somehow I think they'd be quick to dismiss a crazy person on a street corner yelling about a government conspiracy but have that same person rant online and suddenly people listen and take it all truth.

And how they tell you to "do your research". It's not like they are searching databases to get information from peer reviewed academic sources. They are getting it from nut jobs like Alex Jones.

Yeah it's weird because there's a smugness about it. Somehow they have this attitude like you are stupid and uninformed. I guess random internet posters = research.
There was a thread about Jonbenet here. Lots of posters thought they knew so much and what they called facts and evidence was really just random internet poster's theories and opinions.
There was even a link to an "official timeline". The citations and footnotes were laughable. It actually would refer to various random posts as sources.

Didn't you know? Do your research! #Wikipedia #theintranet #googleit! LoL!!! I went to school for Media Studies, posts like those just make me giggle, what else can ya do :confused3 :hyper:

Yup. And can you imagine the uproar if it said Islam.

MG

I would hope that there would be uproar if it said Islam. I know I would be saying the same thing if it said Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Atheism, etc.

The reason why I find that type of comment sad is because I don't understand the need to denounce others' beliefs. I feel confident enough in my faith that I don't need to knock-down others and don't go around saying that Hinduism, Islam, etc. isn't real or a "conspiracy" everywhere I go. Obviously when those types of comments are made there is some lack of confidence in beliefs or self, because otherwise the need to call-out and denounce others' faith wouldn't need to happen. That is what makes it sad.

Right.
But you didn't mention Christianity.

Just to reiterate... my thousand apologies.
I didn't read your dis name and associate it to your earlier post.
