Which cheese platter?

I would like to get a cheese platter for the stateroom when we arrive on the ship. I understand the all hands on deck platter is pretty small, so...

Is the $24 fruit and cheese platter worth it, or would we be happy with two of the all hands on deck platters from room service?

Thanks in advance!

Get 2 cheese platters from room service for a few dollars in tips. You will have all the fruit you want during the trip. Spend the $24 on something else.

Agree totally with the 2 all hands on deck platters. My kids got stuck on that and we probably ate 7-8 of them during the cruise. Everyone loved the cheese platters. You can go to deck 9 and get all the fruit you want.

I agree with the 2 "all hands" approach. Just a heads up that I always loved the All Hands, but have found the quality to diminish each trip. Perhaps, too, it all depends on who is putting it together at the time, and what they've got on hand?:confused3

Btw, if you are arriving early, remember that you can't get into your cabin until a bit later in the afternoon.

Have a great trip!:thumbsup2

Ditto what everyone else says. I LOVED the cheese platter on the ship. From the pictures, it appears the paid cheese plate has similar stuff. And the room service platters come with a few grapes - you can grab things like oranges, apples, bananas and sliced fresh fruit on deck 9 and bring what you want back to your stateroom.

Definitely the 2 all hands on deck cheese platters, you can order them all week from room service if you get the hankering for more cheese. There is so much food on the ship, that you probably wont need many though!

Thanks for the responses, everybody. We'll get the room service platters.

Pooh Jen - take care of the Magic - it looks like we'll be happily boarding a few hours after you miserably debark.

We'll have a rental car, and don't plan to pursue an upgrade, so we'll be arriving at the port at about 12:15 or 12:30 - hopefully the terminal will have cleared out by then, and hopefully we'll be between buses so we can just go straight through.

LOL - I'll try not to eat up all the cheese before you board!

I agree, wish I was going to be there ro get one, if I remember you can get fresh fruit as well from room service.

I ordered the $24 one and it had ALOT on it. I actually nibbled on it throughout the 3 day cruise.

Cool picture. What is on the All Hands platter?

I too, would like to know. I also ordered the $24.00 platter, as I am a cheese lover, and I found it difficult to devour all of it on our 4 day, even with DH's help!

DCL describes it as:-

All Hands on Deck Cheese Platter
-A selection of international cheeses served with crackers.

Basically is the same as the $24 pre order but smaller less fruit. Its free from room service with tip, order 2 and you are close to the pre order version.

croppincolburn Cool picture. What is on the All Hands platter?

I can't remember everything that's on the All Hands on Deck - but it helped me to see the picture of the gift plate. I have no idea if the All Hands on Deck changes from cruise to cruise, but this is what was on it when we sailed in January:

(forgive my utter lack of knowledge of the names of cheese, please :rotfl: )
Those little round cheeses in the orange wax(which we buy at home now, my daughter loved them.)
Brie cheese (I'm almost positive it was brie, if it wasn't, it was similar. It actually looks like it was a slice of the cheese in the middle of this plate.
Grapes
Cheddar and I think another hard cheese.
And various crackers.

I hope that helps.

Thanks OurOhana and arcruiser! Those look great. I'll have to try it. ds6 would probably hog all the food so ordering 2 may be a good idea. Thanks everyone!

Wah! Those pics are making me want to go back! I spent a whole week on the Magic with no sugar, no desserts, and no ice cream but I happily enjoyed several of these before dinners!

Wow, that looks good! I think I'll order that next time.
From what I can tell, it's a Gouda (in the wax), a Blue, Brie, Cheddar, Swiss. I can't tell what's under the Brie, but I'm sure it's good.:goodvibes
Thanks for the picture.

You can't really predict the All Hands on Deck....I ordered it 3 times during a 7 day cruise and it was different each time. Always a 3 or more kinds of cheese, some fruit, sometimes walnuts, varying crackers. If you have favorites, you can specify them when you order.

I wouldn't spend my money on the paid cheese platter--there's plenty of free food on the ship!
