We are getting ready to book our first Disney Cruise. There are 4 of us. Myself, DW, DD (she will be 6), DS (will be 4).

We are just looking to basically get on the ship. We don't need oceanview or veranda, but if the upgrade fairy came, we would be very happy with either!

I note from the room descriptions that CAT 12 only sleeps 2 and some sleep 3, yet, it will still let me reserve a CAT 12 guarantee.

How does this work???? If I book a guaranteed 12 I have to at least get a CAT 11 right? In a sense I would be paying for the 12 to automatically get an 11. I am a little confused. Can anyone help me out??

A cat.12 does sleep 3, and does guarantee an upgrade at least to a cat.11..They allow a certain amount of these to be booked...No one knows why...

If you spent a little more and booked a cat..11, you would most likely choose a cabin number, and booking the guarantee, you can not..

It is a very personal choice..I agree with you, and we always book the cheapest room, and are happy with that, and in the event of an upgrade, we are also happy with that..(yet to happen to us)...We spend little time in our room other than sleeping, and make use of other outdoor places (deck 7 aft) for when we need a little air with some solitude..

Just make sure you are happy with your choice of rooms, and then all will be fine.. :goodvibes

also - check the price...the few times I have checked the cat 12 GTY was more than the Cat 11.

We always book the cheapest rooms too. We are rarely in our rooms during day light and if we are, we are napping, or changing neither of which requires a window! I would rather book two cheaper vacations than one expensive one but I know lots of people that prefer the opposite. Just keep in mind that you are eating the same food and enjoying the same activites and shows regardless of how much you pay for a room.

Now, if your children nap and you want to enjoy a veranda while they are napping then thats probably money well spent...

We made reservations for Catagory 11's and were automatically bumped to Catagory 9's for the same price and our cruise is still close to 9 months away. My BIL and SIL are actually a little bummed because they like to sleep late and didn't want a window!

I would book the GTY 12 and know that you will get at least an 11. Good LucK! :wizard:

I agree with you on the gty 12. Also, try www dot allseastravel dot com. Theya ctually have a phone number you can call and all their dates and prices are listed right on their website. I like when an agency is up front (not that DU isn't- I have heard good things about them too).

I just love allseastravel. The owner helped me with one of my previous cruises that I booked through another company. I had a problem my agency didn't know the answer to and he saw my posting and offered his knowledge. He just wanted to make sure we had the right info even though it wasn't his booking. :cheer2: We booked our upcoming cruise with them.

I have done one of my DCL cruises w/ DU, was happy with the service, and the CM's at DCL know DU as a major TA and respect them.

The cat. 12, for perspective, at 185 sq. ft., has more interior square footage than many balcony staterooms on Royal Caribbean and other lines, for example, so remember the DCL staterooms are designed for families and are considerably larger than industry average.

Good choice in DCL for a 4 and a 6 yr old. Enjoy.

logan,

I note that you have been on the Nordic Empress. That was our first and only cruise thus far! The rooms were, "cozy" for DW and I.

I am looking forward to the large rooms on the Magic!
