with all these shark attacks, I would feel more comfortable with a beach with a lifeguard, We want to go to both the gulf and the ocean

We swam at New Symnra Beach two weeks ago, which has a lifeguard. We are at the "historic area" point of the beach. Great burgers and fries place there right on the beach.

Unfortunately, several of the shark attacks have been in this beach area during the last week.

If your life is in danger in the jaws of a shark, do you think a lifeguard is going to help? Perhaps a few Hail Mary's, Rosary and/or Bible would be safer.

Best bet is to stay away from New Smyrna Beach (head south a few miles to Cocoa Beach or Melborne), only about an hour from Orlando. Gulf Coast has beautiful beaches, with fewer sharks south of Tampa area. Stay away from fresh water lakes and canals, too. Gators!!!

As with any vacation, don't leave common sense at home! Florida has some wonderful beaches, as well as entertaining/educational attractions. It is quite a wonderful place to live!
