Which age for 1st trip: 17 mos or 23 mos?

My DS is 15 months and we are going at the end of Sept. My thoughts were why not just go? My DH and I really want to go NOW and not wait until he's "old enough" Its just my opinion though. I know we will be going at a slower pace and "trying" to follow his regular schedule as much as possible. I'm not kidding myself, I know it will be a lot of work but IMO it will be worth it to see his face when he sees Mickey. Thats the other thing, he loves Mickey now. I don't know if he'll still like him as much in another year. I say go for it just have realistic expectations.

If you're trip is all set I would just go! You'll have a great time no matter what age they are when you go.

With that said.....You should look at what stage they are in right now. My 2 kids were so different at 17 months. My son was difficult. Wouldn't hold our hand, wanted down all the time, threw fits when he had to get back in the stroller and would dart off when put down. My daughter is so different. She sticks close, wants to hold hands, claps and says "yeah stroller ride" when it's time to get in the stroller. If they are more like my daughter, I'd say go. If they are more like my son, I might consider waiting. My favorite all time trip with my son was when he was just a bit over 2 which is why we are going to WDW when my daughter is just over 2. But, we really could have gone when she was 17 months and had a great time.

Whatever you decide just remember that you have to take it slow, make sure they get their rest, be willing to do what they want to do sometimes, and expect to have a meltdown or 2 or 10

We took dd when she was 19m and then again at 25m since I had a conference to go to so we went a few months apart. We did notice that she enjoyed things a bit more, but not so much of a difference that I would have cancelled the first trip. As far as managing her neither trip was especially tough as she's a pretty easy kid. (Her big sis is a different story:rolleyes1 ). If it's already scheduled, go and have fun. They'll love it. Just work around their schedules, and don't expect to do everything. Since this is not a once in a lifetime trip, enjoy them at this age and look forward to the next trip. They'll have a blast.

I was still thinking about this tonight. I think that maybe if you are having a hard time deciding then perhaps you should wait. Just my opinion, usually the things that I have to really stress over are things that probably aren't going to work out for me, or aren't the right choice. Good luck with your decision.
