I'm hoping it DLR as well. I'm staying one night at GC in June for 24 points and paying 12-14 points for a weekday would be much nicer. :)

Disneyland Resort is not a replacement for a WDW vacation, it's a whole different type of experience there. However, I love what they have been doing with the place over the last 10 years. It's a great place for a shorter vacation.

Give it a try the next time you feel like a quick get away. You will not even recognize the place now!

Thanks!!! I live far closer to DL than WDW but perfer not to go to southern CA... far too congested, therefore, have not been there since.... 1977 and am not familiar with the layout.

I think announcements in this order:

Disney's Grand Californian Villas

Villas at Disney's Contemporary Resort

Something at Disneyland Paris

I would say if you were betting you would win. :thumbsup2

I'd say to look where the physical signs are. There are pics of two properties having some kind of work done. The demolition at the Contemporary, and the marking off of land/ tree tagging at one end of the Grand Californian.

Hmmmm Does anyone know how well the Grand Californian rents out? Better than AKL??

I have heard that all the DLR hotels have been at 90% occupancy for going on 2 years now. We had a tough time getting a room on points at 2 months out at the GC as nothing was available for the dates we wanted. We ended up having them tell us what dates were open, and we booked it that way.

Disneyland Resort ...

With the rumored millions more dollars budgeted for new attractions, such as Carland, Wonderful World Of Color lagoon show, rethemed hub, and new Monorail bridge all in DCA, plus the total refurb, retheming of DLH the resort will be even more different.
The new Monorail trains are coming too.

DLR has no problem renting rooms. This however, does not play into the decision to build DVC rooms there (Like it does with AKL). Building DVC rooms at DLR is aimed at expanding the options for DVC. They will sell a heck of alot more DVC memberships (in California and elsewhere) if prospective owners perceve that they have more options for stays both at WDW and DLR.
Even though we (experienced DVC'ers) know that with only 50 units at GCH, trading at 7 months will be a real challenge, Guides can still honestly tell prospective buyers that DVC has units at The Disneyland Resort. This is a marketing decision (IMO)

Having just looked at the DLP website for hotel prices I cannot see haw they could fit this in with the DVC model, a room for 7 nights at the disneyland hotel including tickets (which all DLP hotels include as standard) comes out at the equivelent of almost $2000 more than staying at the GF with tickets for a week and at WDW you would have twice the number of parks to choose from. Eurpoean hotels are much more expensive than ones in the US. Either disney would have to charge lots more for the points or use a higher number of points to stay at these places, either way someone would be losing out. i.e if points cost nearly twice as much brits would buy at WDW then move at the 7 month window or if it cost lots more points to stay people from the US would not bother staying there. This problem has occured mainly due to currency fluctuations, at present we get 30% more dollars to a pound than 3 years ago but 10% less euros. It means that a british family of 4 out of the school holidays can stay at WDW including flights for 14 days for the same price as the 14 days at DLP, whos going to choose wet cold paris over the sunshine state ?

I am (really) hoping that the next DVC is at the Grand Californian. After that, I'd like to see the one at the Contemporary built. Then maybe another DVC at DLR! :teeth:

Oh Please Be Disneyland paris.:)
I would just LOVE it.:thumbsup2

Actually, the Wall Street Journal came out with an article last week on their website about Disney planning on expanding around the world. Rathing than building giant parks, like in CA and FL, they are looking at building resorts around the country and world. For instance, it said that Disney was thinking about expanding DVC by building resorts in the Caribbean. They even had designs for a pirate themed resort. I LOVE PIRATES! pirate: That would be so cool. There's a good chance that article is still on their website, you should check it out.

I would be more points if they were offered off WDW property. I love WDW but I sure would like a resort in the Caribbean:banana:

last march we stayed at the contemporary in the towers b/c of a convention my DH attended. we had never stayed there b4. it was right around the time they were renovating the 14th and 15th floors i think. we were lucky enough to get one of the rooms that they had just finished re-doing. it was the 1st time we hadn't stayed @ a dvc resort... and let me tell u we loved it. esp the view of the lagoon. i think that the contemporary should be the next biggest dvc resort - home away from home .... at least i hope it is b/c wouldn't that mean that the points would go down a bit? b/c dvc resprts are cheaper in points compared to the GF or poly etc.. but eagle pines sounds nice too.
