I picked up a refurbished 8gb iTouch from the Apple site this morning for $149 plus tax and shipping. My DD and I discussed it and decided that while we did want one, we didn't need the latest generation model nor more than 8gb.
This is OT but I have to say I was impressed with my DD when we were discussing this. Instead of just wanting the latest model, she wanted us to get the least expensive model ("to save money") and she voluntarily chipped in her own money (from her own savings) to help pay for it.

There is no big difference between the 8gb 2nd generation and the 8gb 3rd generation. I also bought a 8gb refurb yesterday as well as the 16 gb refurb. You can upgrade the os (operating system) to the newest one from itunes, only cost $4.95. That is what I'm planning to do. Apple's refurb's more often othan not are brand new but "old" in terms of generations and are sold as refurbs.
