Where were you when the space shuttle blew up??

I was working as a courier during the day and doing sketch comedy/improv at night. I was driving to a delivery and thinking about how to re-work a sketch we were doing about a couple of inept handymen called "Ed and Charlie Fix the Space Shuttle" when I heard the news.
We never did that sketch again...

I had popped home from school (Junior year in college) on my way out to work, and flipped the TV on to watch the launch. I saw it as it happened, and then had to go work.

A good friend of mine actually ended up being on one of the Naval Ships in the area that did the recovery.

I live right by the shuttle, I was in my senior year of high school, walking home, looked up to see another shuttle launch going off and it ended up being the one launch I will never forget.

At home sitting in the kitchen, watching it live on tv. Could tell something was wrong right away.....:(

home sick from school, i think jr high. i wasn't really watching tv at the time. i think i was walking around the house when i saw the explosion. i wasn't shocked at first because i figured it was just a tape of a rocket that had blown up at one time or something.

We had announcements during our lunch period every day. I was in English class that day, freshman year in highschool when our principal broke the news.

I was a sophmore in High school as well..86 right? What month was it again?

Depending on what month, I could have been a junior as well...

If I know month and time, that would help. But I have no clue what my schedule was back then...

The Challenger explosion happened on January 28, 1986. The lift-off was at 11:38am EST and the explosion occurred 73 seconds later.

I was at work. A co-worker came into my office and asked if I had heard about the explosion. She had been listening to the radio. I had another co-worker who was pregnant at the time. She gave birth that summer to a baby girl and named her Christa McAuliffe (first and middle name) in honor of the civilian teacher who died aboard the space shuttle.

We were living onthe west coast of Florida, New Port Richey, and was getting ready for work. It was on the Tv so I could walk out into the street in front of the house and see the vapor trails.

I was sitting in front of the tv with my youngest - we always enjoyed watching the shuttles go up and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what had happened.

I was working as an Operating Room assistant for an Ophthalmologist when Challenger blew up. We were all in the OR lounge waiting for our next case when someone came in and told us. At first we thought it was a sick joke until we actually saw it on TV. That was the day I also got my first migraine headache.

I was on an airplane flying from Talahasee FL to Detroit after spending a week vacationing with my parents. They stayed longer, but I flew back alone. They didn't mention the shuttle on the plane, I found out when we landed from my sister who was meeting my plane.

I was in 5th grade and we were at lunch when it happened. When we got back from lunch our teacher told the class what had happened and we spent the rest of the day just talking about it. :(

I was playing pinochle during my lunch break... We were all so shocked when someone came by and told us about the explosion. We left the cards on the table and went looking for a TV to see what had happened.

I was in the Magic Kingdom. DH and I were at WDW for a week. We were staying off property (the only time we did that) and had considered driving over to watch the launch. We didn't because it kept being postponed and we didn't wnat to drive over for nothing. I am SOOOOO glad we didn't go. As it was, being in the MK and so insulated from the outside world, we didn't hear about it until about 5 in the afternoon when we heard a CM, who had just come into work in a shop, talking about it.

I was working as a secretary for Teledyne. The company manufactured and supplied products used in the aerospace industry. Our company provided the O-rings used on the Challenger. We were all watching it live on tv.:(

I was in the kitch of my first home preparing the ingrdients for my supper. I had a black and white 13 inch TV on the table and was in shock when I saw that breaking news. it was so sad. :(

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the O-Ring that caused the explosion?
