I know this is off topic but does anyone know any fun places to vacation OTHER than Orlando?? We are looking to find a beach location this summer. Going to Disney this week and a cruise in September. It will be myself and 3 kids 8, 6, and 3. DH does not have as much vacation time as me. Thanks

Wow! Lucky you to be able to take so many fun places with your kids:) I haven't been on a long time and it is not a beach spot but how about Busch Gardens in Williamsburg Virginia? My cousins family always goes to Nagshead North Carolina each year and love it. We took my DSD to Clear Water, FL years ago and it was beautiful! Very prestine and tropical. Other than that we just prefer Disney:)

When we go to florida we love going to Belleair Bluffs/Indian Rocks/Clearwater area. The beaches are beautiful. The kids have a wonderful time and they love playing the mini golf there. They love Smugglers Cove its a great mini golf. You can get a lot of very reasonable condos there. I'm just in the process of booking our Christmas holidays in one. We've been to the same condo many times now.

What is this "other vacation place" you speak of? I thought Disney was the only choice. LOL....JK. Destin, Florida has beautiful beaches and a lot of activities and great restaurants for fun at night. Have fun on your trip. :goodvibes

Busch gardens isnt far from VA Beach. Its a nice place to visit with family. Very family oriented. I've been there a few times and its really nice.

I know it is hard to believe that anyone would go anywhere than Disney. We have been 4 times in the past 6 months so I am looking to change it up. If anyone can recommend a great place in MB, Sc or Destin or Virginia beach please PM me or contact me through the appropiate venue. Thanks

We go to Coronado Island every summer. It's across the causway from San Diego. We stay at the Loews resort on the island. It is so family friendly. They have surfing lessons, dive-in movies in the pool, family bingo, smores by the bonfire, tennis, and much more. The proximity to San Diego can't be beaten. We go to the zoo, Legoland and Disneyland (yes, more Disney). The Lowes is advertising great rates right now, too.

We love Hilton Head, SC. It's not tacky like some beach towns - it's very nicely kept (strict building codes), and there are plenty of places to eat, putt-putt golf, etc., and the beaches are very nice. Having said that, there probably isn't a lot of the stuff that the "tacky" places have.

I second Destin, FL. However, if you want to go north, I am from MA and Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Island are wonderful!

I second Hilton Head, SC. We have family on HH, so we visit there frequently.

We also love Charleston, SC. There is more to do in Charleston than HH, but it's more expensive, too. We enjoy going to Patriot's Point and visiting the Yorktown. There's also Fort Sumter, which you can tour. Beyond that, there are carriage rides throughout the city and lots of great restaurants.

I second Charleston. We stayed in Charleston and vistited Isle of Palms beach, and it was lovely. Also love Tybee Island and Savannah, GA. For a really great and different beach vaca, forgo the ocean and come inland to the Great Lakes. Mackinaw Island, in Lake Huron is fab, as are some of the Lake Michigan beach towns like Charlevoix, Traverse City and Petoskey. There's tons to do, lots of parks and lighthouses and good times to be had by all. (This message brought to you by Michigan citizens desperate to pimp her local economy).

We went to Grand Bahama island this year and it was a great beach vacation the best snorkeling ever!:cloud9:

Michigan's beach towns are also AWSOME! Sugary beaches and tons of quaint lil towns! :flower3: Traverse city is a great vacation getaway along with Mackinaw Island and the scenic upper peninsula is a must see with pictured rocks, water falls and tons of beaches! :) Yes Please come to Michigan!:thumbsup2

A great place my family loves is Destin Fl. Beautiful beaches just like the tropics. Check out seacrestcondos.com. They are very reasonably priced, right on the beach, indoor/outdoor pool, jacuzzi and clean. Pretty close to everything. I highly recommed. Hope this helps.

Sandestin in Florida. The eating/shopping area across the highway reminds me of WDW.

I have to agree. we are lucky because my parents have a cottage up on the Lake huron side about 30 mins from mackinaw. We decided not to do disney and while I am sad I know we will love a week up there. To be honest my kids would probably probably prefer it. You can't beat the fresh water beach.
(ohio gal helping to pimp out my local state:cool1: :cool1: )

We live less than 20 minutes from Sandestin. The Village of Baytowne Wharf (inside Sandestin) does make me feel like I'm back at WDW again. We sometimes head over just for the day to eat and walk around.

Try Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg Tennesseee in the Smokies. There is Dollywood Amusement Park, the National Park and its a very family oriented place with much for the kids to do, the backdrop of the smokey mountains is gorgeous! my family loves it there.

I say Outerbanks (OBX) of NC. The beaches are great, there are lighthouses to climb, nice quaint towns, Jockey's Ridge to climb and fly kites on (big sanddune), and good eating too!
