Where to vacation, besides Disney

Okay, I know that this is the DisBoardsbut I am trying to find a good summer vacation for my family (or maybe a getaway for my husband and myself alone) that will be pretty inexpensive. I live in San Diego, CA and we can either drive close or fly cheap (Family of 4)

With the vast untapped knowledge available on this dicussion board I am hoping for some creative suggestions. Tell me about your hometowns too.

Oh man if I lived in California I'd fly to Hawaii and rent a beach house from www.vrbo.com. You can get some great airfares from there.

San Francisco is very doable too. So many options.

What about Vegas.

We.you said cheap so Hawaii is out based on airfare alone.
We go every summer to Pointe Hilton Tapatio Resort. They have 2 soom suites that sleep 5 wiht balconies. An adults only pool with swiim up bar. A bunch of restaurants. A great more family friendly pool. A bunch of other hidden spas and pools around the property. Its in North Phoenix. I am going to both Hawaii and here this year and am equally excited about both.; The tapatio is just great

I'm taking my daughter to Monterey Bay this summer. A drive up the coast, see the aquarium, go whale watching and attend the County Fair and farmer's market.

I'll put in a pitch for my old home state of Arizona; how about the Oak Creek Canyon/Sedona area? Beautiful country, ancient native ruins, ghost towns, artists communities...
