DH and I will arrive at the Boardwalk Inn at about 12:30pm. Our plan is to check in and have the front desk hold our luggage until our room is ready. We plan on hitting the parks for a few hours. However we will not have a car and am wondering if there is a secure location to leave our laptop. Does the front desk have a safe or secured room?

We have stayed onsite several times but this is the first time the problem has come up (always had a car).

Thanks,
Grace :confused3

I would like to know this too!!!!!!!!!!

I was afraid about this too. We stayed at ASMo and got there around 12 luckily they let us check in early, but for 45 min or so the laptop was in their luggage assistance room. We then transferred hotels to Contemporary. They transferred laptop from ASMo room around 9 am to luggage assistance to Contemporary to luggage assistance there then to our room when we got back from the parks around 10pm. They also had the laptop again at luggage assistance when we checked out of Contemporary around 9 am until we were ready for our transfer back to the airport around 5 pm. So with all the time they had it and with moving it luckily did not get lost. The laptop was in a quite large laptop case that may not have even been noticed as a laptop case. Therefore, why "take" a bag that you don't know you will get something worth taking. I don't know if what I said makes any sense, but we just used luggage assistance to hold the bags. However, beware the amount we paid on tips for this at the end of the week could have bought us a dinner from GF's fancy restaurant. :rotfl: With 8 bags and 1-2 bucks a bag with 4 or so trips with them was about 60 or so.

I believe they have a safe at the front desk and that you can ask a manager to store it and any other valuables there. I had heard that the safes in the value rooms weren't big enough for a lap top so we will look into seeing if the front desk can hold it securely since DS insists on bringing it! :flower:

Thanks for the advice. DH and I will be there for our 20th anniversary (and my 40th bday). DH needs the laptop to check in on work (he is the computer guy and systems like to crash when he is away).

When you are going to leave your laptop in your room you should buy a laptop lock. One version is called a Kensington lock, there is a slot on your computer you attach one end and the other end is wrapped around something immoveable. Lock costs are $20.

just beware that in many hotel rooms, it's hard to find something that works. we have a kensington laptop lock and most of the time there is no place truly immovable for us to lock it in hotel rooms.

Pop Century's safe was large enough for me to put my Toshiba Satellite. Otherwise...I put it in my suitcase and lock that up.

In light of the recent threads about theft on Disney properties, I think I would be very reluctant to take it with me at all..

Sad, because it kind of shakes my image of Disney, naive as it may have been..:(

I guess better safe that sorry, but I took my Sony VAIO with me to AKL last month and left it on the side table in our room the whole week without a problem.

Also be aware that if you're flying some TSA security folks won't let you take your kensington in your carry-on luggage. Had this happen recently on a business trip, they confiscated mine and 2 other business travelers kensington locks. Then again I've flown many times and they've said nothing about it. Guess they considered it a dangerous weapon or maybe I just looked suspicious :earseek:

I now pack it in my checked luggage. :badpc:

we have taken our laptops several times and have had no problem w/them whatsoever. we usually just leaving them sitting out. we store them upon arrival. usually my husband "packs" them in his carry-on. we have used both a dell and an apple powerbook w/no connect problems. good luck! :earboy2:

We have taken it before to Disney as well as other vacations. We have always left it in the room with no problem.

I think I will call the resort to see if they can store it securely. I will post when I get an answer.

Last year when we stayed onsite for the very first time at POR I had my laptop along with camcorder locked up at the front desk. They had a safe room that they put it in for me while the rest of our luggage stayed with luggage assistance. We were going to the water parks till our room was ready and I didn't want to haul the camcorder with us to that.

After we were in our room I left the laptop in the room each day when we left to go to the parks. I didn't leave it out but left it in a suitcase in the room.

On our cruise with Disney I did leave out the laptop on the desk each day. I never thought about someone stealing it on the boat. I'm glad I didn't come back one day to find it gone. Next time I'll probably leave it in the luggage too each day that we leave the room.

After hearing about all the thefts I'm kinda glad we are staying offsite this year at a condo without the daily maid service. That way I don't have to worry as much when I leave my laptop in the room. Course I'll still leave it put away each day but someone set on stealing could always go thru all our bags. Luckily for me I always travel with a large family group and boy would that take someone awhile to get thru all our bags. : : :rolleyes1

We stayed st the Swan last week and brought our laptop. I had meant to get a lock, but everyone got the flu a week before we left and I never had time. So we locked it one of our suitcases each day and didn't have a problem.

That's what I would do - lock it in the largest suitcase that I had with me.. A maid could easily wrap a lap top in dirty sheets or a stack of dirty towels to take it out of a room, but she would probably look a bit suspicious if she walked out of the room with a huge suitcase in hand..
