Where to store laptop?

In the years of bringing a laptop to Disney, I have mostly left it out, sometimes I have put it in a suitcase or draw, but the odds of anything happening are remote at best.
I also do not worry about an asteroid impacting my trip, but I guess I could if I wanted to.

That's us as well. We have two laptops and will have mine out just about the entire time. We put a newspaper over it when we are out of the room. My husband's laptop is in the case but in full view (not in front of a window, though). I've also left my cameras out as well (in the cases).

If a thief really wants to get you, they will. This wasn't at Disney World but I once had two blank checks stolen from our checkbook while my son and I were at the pool. But we didn't realize that until a month later. Why? Because the thieves didn't take the top two checks. They took one check about ten deep and a second check deeper than that. So we didn't notice until we got our bank statement much later.

And think about the new RFID technology - Disney could probably track who was in your room should anything be taken. It ain't going to be easy for thieves anymore.

I would leave it in a drawer. It'll be perfectly safe. If you're still worried, hide it beneath some clothes.

Mehh I respectfully disagree. I used to work in the hotel industry and in just a year of working for a luxury chain, I saw one maintenance worker and one housekeeper both let go for theft. It's a lot more common than you think. And even though I knew this myself, I negligently and naively left out my iPod in my room while in a resort in Cancun and when I came back it was gone. I couldn't prove it and nothing happened. Another time in Los Angeles, my fiance left his phone in his hotel room and when he came back, the housekeeper was in there. His phone was not where he left it so he asked her if she moved it and she said no she hadn't see it. His friend called the phone and low and behold, ringing came from the housekeeper's cart in the hallway. There is none so blind as he who will not see ;)

. . . i read somewhere that people have stored there's at the front desk. What is recommended?

1) The Front Desk DOES NOT accept laptops for keeping.
. . . might get lost
. . . guest could complain there was damage done or laptop doesn't work
2) You could try the Safe Deposit boxes at Front Desk.
3) But, most are not big enough for a full-size laptop.

*******************************************************
SAFE DEPOSIT BOXES: (at Resort Front Desk)

Safe Deposit Boxes:
. . . ALL resorts do have safety boxes at the Front Desk
. . . there are two sizes (about 4"x5"x15" and about 5"x7"x15")
. . . like a bank, you place goods in box and you & hotel each get a key
. . . you sign a card and initial the card upon each entry thereafter
. . . two sizes at each resort (big laptops do not fit either size)
. . . there is no charge for their use
. . . the hotel is not responsible for the items that you deposit *
. . . no resort has a public "safe" behind the Front Desk
. . . resorts do not put guest items into the main hotel safe
. . . you can only use the safety deposit boxes
As a note for large items left at bell services:
. . . items left with Bell Services are not guaranteed secure
. . . functioning condition for mechanical/electrical devices not guaranteed
. . . and, there are no separate "lock boxes" or "cages" in luggage rooms **
. . . additionally, seldom are luggage rooms kept locked at any resort
. . . frequently guests are found walking through the luggage rooms

* By using the safe deposit boxes, hotels are completely harmless from
liability. The guest handles, places and removes items, so the hotel does
not have any chance to alter, damage, or lose items. No hotel that would
take responsibility for valuables. There is just too much chance for guests
to flim-flam the hotel for lost or damaged goods.

I'm not comfortable enough to leave the darn thing out when there is daily housekeeping coming in. I use an Ipad now, not a full laptop. I'll either put it in the safe or take it with me. Putting it in a suitcase wouldn't be bad because someone would have to be specifically out to find something to steal in order to get it. But I won't leave it out. No use leaving it out where someone will see it and get the last-minute idea to grab it. Around here, they grab the Ipads out of people's hands on the subway and run. So Ipads are hot commodities.

I've been at several resorts where they said there was. So why are they saying there is, if there isn't? And even then, someone's got the key to them.
