Where to stay??

Ok, first off I have a quirk. I want to stay at every resort on property :) I have been to all the moderates, 2 of the values and taking our first trip "home" to SSR this November. Hubby and I decided to knock out the rest of the non DVC deluxes with our points because we know we are totally going to get spoiled when staying at our 1 bdrm villa. Figured if we did that enough we wouldn't want to go back to a regular type hotel room.

So our next 4-5 vacations are going to be at the non DVC deluxes to get them out of the way.

There are 2 places that I am contemplating on. GF and Cont in the Tower. For those have stayed, tell me the pros, cons, what you like, where would you stay and why?

Thanks :wave2:

What???? No one has any opinions on the GF for Cont Tower?? :faint: Somehow I find that hard to believe ;)

:rotfl:

That's quite a goal :cheer2: , to stay at every resort!! I like going to different resorts also, so I understand. But if you want to stay at every resort, it really doesn't matter which deluxe you stay first, because you will eventually go to the other one sooner or later. You may want to check which one has recently been refurbished (ex. the Poly), because this way you would be getting the newest rooms. Regardless, I personally like the CR Tower better, I really don't know why, I just do. It is more convienient to the monorail, everything you need is right there in that one building. The views are spectacular (ask for the view facing the magic kingdom). OK, I guess I did know why I liked it better! Don't get me wrong, the GF is very beautiful, you would be happy with either choice. But here's a thought  , if you have not stayed at the value resorts yet, you may want to do that first, especially the POP because that is still relatively new. It may be difficult to go from deluxe to value. Let us know what you choose!! :flower: :wave2: :flower:
Ok nevermind about the value, I just saw in your signature that you already stayed at the POP and All Star! :duck:

If you're DVCers your right to get the other resorts out of the way but I really don't think you're using your points to your best advantage by staying at the other resorts onsite. We thought of doing this once and it seemed like such a waste to pay for example 19 points per night for the CB when we could stay for 8 points at the Boarwalk in a studio. What we ended up doing was paying for the non DVC room and just using our points for DVC resorts. That said. I found that once I stayed at the Boardwalk the GF was a disappointment. Maybe it was just the time we were there but..... Hubby and I went there for an anniversary, just the two of us. Lovely room, lovely welcome (a nice little anniversary thing from the GF). One morning I ordered room service. The guy just came and dropped the tray ~ that compared to the Boarwalk where room service can be something of an event. Another morning we were awakened by a very LOUD familiy in the room next to ours, something we never have had at the Boardwalk. The GF robes weren't in our room, and even after requesting them, never got them. Maybe I'll go back, but I love the Boardwalk. Anyway, before using points for non-DVC resorts think carefully and really look at your point charts. Maybe you can use your points for a few nights and pay room rates for nights at the other resorts to nock them out.

I don't like the GF.

I did like the Cont - mother loved it. I like the Bay lake - Mother liked the seven seas lagoon (MK side).

the cont is different.

Mother liked seeing the fireworks at night.

I liked seeing the EWP at night.

both from the room.

these 2 events are on different sides of only this resort.

You do have a good point and we did consider that too but that is one of the things that intrigued us about DVC is that we could use them at other resorts. I know this wouldn't be to my best interest all the time which is why I want to knock out GF, Cont, AKL and Poly during the next 4 visits so I can be done with them! :) I know I will be too spoiled with my 1bdrm.

So I guess I am thinking it will be ok to use these only the next 4 vacations and still have 44 years to really get great benefit out of my DVC. Another thing DVC is allowing us to do is stay at some of these places without having to worry about the bill after 5 nights. EEK!

But I do appreciate you putting it into perspective :)

Anyone else have any opinions on GF or Cont Tower??

Both share great location, convenience, and accessibility. CR Tower has taller (better, IMO) views of the MK/lake. It seems a little more convenient, having everything in the Tower building...monorail w/o going outside, shops, food.

As you see, we've stayed at CR a few times, been in the wings, the MK-view tower, and the Bay-view tower. I'm usually pretty chinchy, but we'll probably pay for the Tower and MK-side (I heard starting in 2006, you can pay $30 more per night for the MK-side) in future trips. Everything's a quick elevator ride away, and the MK is a 5-7 minute walk away...a nice option when parades/firework crowds all leave and crowd the Disney transportation.

Some don't like the theme or say it has no theme, but that's not true. If you live in downtown Chicago or Manhattan, maybe the cosmopolitan feel isn't vacation enough, but I love it (am from a woodsy suburb of Charlotte).

Saying that, I've always wanted to stay at the GF and we might try that next time. Someone posted some room pictures of GF on another thread, and they look great! I need to ask on a GF-thread about the different rooms there...how the main building's rooms differ.

You should be tickled with either choice...let us know what you decide, and have a great trip! :tilt:

Both are excellent choices. I honestly have to say, take a look at some pictures and go from there. You really cannot go wrong with either!

GF because it is considered the flagship crem de la crem property and I don't like the contemporary.

I LOVE the GF, but I haven't tried the Contemporary yet. The Contemporary is often described as being like Disney city, and I love the shopping there, but I prefer a more removed, traquil feel. At GF I feel very pampered. The beds are so cozy, and the views are beautiful and relaxing. I just love the look of the buildings when you walk around the property--especially at dusk, when they are all lit up. I love the waterfall pool and the beach area. It's just a great place :cool1:

We love, love, LOVE the CR tower. We had a MK view, 12th floor, and it was amazing. The beds are really comfy, too. We love being able to watch the fireworks from our room, walking to MK, and shopping in the concourse. We enjoy the restaurants that CR offers, as well. CR has my vote!
