Where to stay with grandma?

Would love some help here! This year we are picking up my mil and taking her with us for a couple days. We generally stay in mods and planned to do the same this year.

Here is our issue. My mil broke her hip earlier this summer. She is doing great but will still not be 100% when we go. We plan to rent a wheelchair for her in the parks. She is not a morning person and would like to just sleep/hang at the hotel and come to the parks in the evening. Totally fine with us. I want to make sure we stay somewhere where she will have easy access to quick service dining. She can walk on her own (moving to a cane rather than walker this week) but long distances are probably not going to be easy for her and she will be going to breakfast on her own so I want it to be as close as we can get her.

What would everyone suggest? Is a preferred room really that much closer to dining? Where is the best place to stay that she would have to walk the least on her own.

We have stayed at all the mods and like them all. We have stayed at both WL and the Contemporary as well but didn't find that with either we were any closer to dining.

A preferred room at any of the mods will put you closest to the main buildings. If you go that route, then the particular resort can just be personal preference. Otherwise, you could stay at POFQ, since it is the smallest resort and perhaps request building 4 or 5. I'd also request a ground floor room for medical reasons. Some resorts do have elevators, but they're never located where you need them to be.;)

POFQ is perfect for a guest with mobility issues. Request a handicap room and you will be very close to everything. I would call personally and explain the situation.;)

My mom always has to use a wheelchair at WDW and POFQ is her favorite because of the smaller size of the resort. It really makes a huge difference.

My mom loved bay lake towers as it was close to the park so she could rest. It was a monorail trip to other places to eat and the quick service food choices were pretty good considering other places we stayed. She liked other resorts but as she gets older it was clearly the best choice. Ps she had just had knee replacement prior to trip

POFQ is the smallest mod and would probably be best for someone with mobility issues.

If it is at all possible for her (or you) to pitch in some extra $$, I would recommend the Contemporary as it is a quick elevator ride down to the quick service restaurant there (Contempo Cafe). The food at the Contempo Cafe is excellent, and she wouldn't have to go outdoors to get food (in case it's raining, etc.). The rooms at the Contemporary also offer stunning views on both sides of the tower (of Bay Lake on one side and MK on the other). It might be nice for her to have a place to sit and enjoy the view if she's going to be at the resort alone for long periods of time.

Please don't think I'm trying to force my opinion on you...I'm just trying to help! I have stayed at both resorts and found POFQ to be wonderful...I'm just not sure it's a place I'd want to be "stuck" (for lack of a better word).

I'd advise checking out Coronado Springs. It has room service so she can order her breakfast be delivered to her instead of her having to go for it. A bit more costly but I think it might be worth it. Then you can request a room close to a bus stop or wherever you want it.
