Where to stay with 6

I'm a newbie, I am having difficult trying to find accomodations for family of 6-all mine! I want something with a fun pool, sitter service and comfortable sleeping (my 2 youngest are tired of always getting the sleeper sofa). Ages of kids 6,9,11,13. I keep getting quotes on the Villas, but don't understand, since they are "time share". Do the rooms that have "daybeds", do they accomodate 2 on the daybed? Thanks, and please try to talk english not disney, I don't get all the abbreviations. Thanks again lisa

We are a family of 6, and before becoming DVC owners, we would get 2 adjoining rooms at All Stars. We have stayed at Fort Wilderness Cabins, and they are great. The bedroom has bunk beds and a queen bed (for 2) and the living room has a pull down queen (DH and I slept there). There is one bathroom and a kitchen with full size fridge. It's like a mobile home. There's a deck and a grill. Getting two adjoining rooms at a resort that you can afford allows your group to have 2 bathrooms, and that's great too!

Fitting six can be tough! WDW standard hotel rooms fit a max of 4 in all Value resorts and all but one Moderate (Port Orleans-Riverside, and they only fit 5 in certain rooms with a trundle bed). The deluxe standard rooms can fit 5.

For six, you have several options. You can rent one of the villas, which while are mainly for the use of DVC members, can be rented out, but as you've found out, are very expensive. You can try to rent points from a DVC member that won't be using their points for this year, you can get more info on the DVC boards. This is a very economical, but I'm not sure if it's cheaper than two hotel rooms or not, since I've never done it or researched it.

You can rent a cabin at Ft. Wilderness Campground. They sleep 6, and have a full kitchen. I stayed in one once, and I loved it, though the transportation withing the campground to connect to the buses and boat to take you to the parks is a bit anoying. Also, I believe that the Wilderness Lodge offers deluxe rooms that can fit 6, but I don't know too much about that.

Your best bet to keep costs down is to get two standard rooms at either a Value or a Moderate resort, and request connecting. This will be the cheapest way to go, plus you get two bathrooms, two t.v.'s, and you can shut the connecting door if someone needs a nap while the others want to be up and about.

Your best bet would be to get 2 ajoining rooms at a hotel (you can only do it this way by calling for a resiveration). Or, if you get a room at the Wilderness Lodge with bunk beds (if your kids don't mind sharing beds)- each one of the bunk bed rooms has a double or queen sized bed and 2 bunk beds (then you can always ask for a roll away bed if they have them). This will only work though if you book a room seperate from a package (because they will ask for all the people staying in the room) or ir you book a package for 4 and then on the side buy 2 Magic Your Way tickets for the length of your stay. (My family use to have to sneek in people like this because we had 5 in our family and my brother always took a friend).

Lisa you don't say how vital the financial aspect of the accommodation is.

On Site your options are fairly limited, as has been said you can book two rooms at any resort that fits your budget, if you wanted to be all in one unit then Fort Wilderness Cabins probably offer you the best value for money. If cost isn't an overriding factor renting a 2 bedroom DVC unit from Disney offers a fantastic level of accommodation. You get a master suite with kingsize bed, jacuzzi and walk in shower, the 2nd bedroom has either 2 double/queens proper beds or one proper bed and a pull out sofa bed and it's own bathroom, it also has a fully equiped kitchen, laundry/dryer area, dining/living room with another pullout sofa bed. The units comfortably sleep 8, so your family would fit in easily. A cheaper option to renting from Disney can be renting points from a DVC member. It is MUCH cheaper to rent points IF you are able to have your booking Sunday-Thursday nights, if your trip includes a Friday or Saturday these nights are 2.5 times the price of the cheaper nights. You should be able to get a 2 bedroom DVC unit from about $280 a night, by renting points, depending on the season. do remember this is a private deal between you and the DVC owner so do take care to make sure you protect yourself.

There are a lot more options off site, these range from timeshare units to suite hotels to renting a private villa. IMHO for accommodation, comfort and cost by far the best option available to you is a private villa (with private pool). With your group size I think this is your most economical choice, but like all things it is a question of priorities, I don't think you're going to find a cheap option that covers all the things you require, so you have to decide what's the most important factors for you.

I would definitely look into the cabins at Fort Wilderness. It's a great area for kids, you can buy groceries and save money on meals and they often have better discounts when the codes come out.

It has the same sleeping arrangement, but also includes the concierge services. I personally prefer the deluxe resorts - so that is my input. I have never stayed DVC, but I DON'T want a kitchen near me when I am on vacation!!! I also do not want a washer and dryer within sight. Bluck. (just me) Also with DVC, you don't get maid service daily.

I was also going to mention the Wilderness Lodge Deluxe room. It is 2 rooms and sleeps 6. It does only have one bathroom vs 2 if you went with 2 adjoining rooms. I hear they are nice though and are only choice if my family of 5 wants to stay the the Wilderness Lodge.
