Las Vegas Where to stay on the strip in the summer?

Hi. This would be our first time there and we would have two (not consecutive) nights. (With one night at the Grand Canyon in between).

I know it's oppressively hot in the summer- does anyone have suggestions where to stay (two different places) for our nights there? We're not into gambling- and have kids- so we'd basically want to check out the hotels and some of the free shows and maybe one show that requires tickets .

Any suggestions as 'where' to stay on the strip to minimize the walking/the heat. Or are all hotels connected internally? I'm thinking to possibly divide up the strip over the 2 nights so we'd only have to deal with half the span each time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

I like the Planet Hollywood area. The PH towers are awesome and connected to the mall.

Maybe MGM, Tropicana or Excalibur for one night and see that end of the strip, and then mid strip like ballys, PH, Paris etc for one night. You could narrow the choice based on which show you want to see, or just a great rate.

Not all hotels are connected - you will have to step out
into the heat once in a while. Since you have kids and
want to divide your stay to one end and the other you
could try Excalibur one night (the south end) as Judy
suggests and then Circus Circus one night (the north
end). Circus Circus is cheap but very kids orientated.
I doubt you’d regret it for one night.

Tropicana has a fun pool. Mid strip Flamingo has a
great pool complex for kids. A really great pool on the
south end is Mandalay Bay.

Are your kids young or teens? Circus Circus & Excalibur are themed for younger kids, but for teens there is New York New York with a cool theme & a roller coaster. At the other end of town Paris has cool theming & is linked with Ballys, is next door to Planet HollywoodMiracle Mile Shops, & across the street from Bellagio, Caesars & Cosmo. I have never stayed at any of these places though so I can't speak for the rooms or service.

As far as kid friendly shows, Terry Fator at Mirage & Blue Man Group (I think it's at Venetian now) were really good.

What are the kids interested in doing while on the trip? I don't have kids, but went many times with my mom as a kid, so I have a little perspective.

Going in mid-summer, the pool will probably be a top priority, but which hotel has the best pool would depend on the ages of your kids. The pool at Mirage plays loud music and would probably be best for teens. Mandalay Bay has a wave pool and might also have a lazy river.

If you want to see as many hotels and free shows as you can I would suggest staying in the middle of the strip at Bally's, Paris, Bellagio or Mirage. Then you can see the nighttime fountain show at Bellagio and the exploding volcano at Mirage. You will also have easy access to The Crystals mall which has very high end stores, but also lots of public art installations which are free and fun to look at.

I have not been to Circus Circus in many many many years and only visited (never stayed there), but I thought it seemed rundown. For the money,you can get a lot better hotel and location in the middle of the strip. It is also quite a hike from circus circus to the middle and south end of the strip.

Since you have children check the pool facilities. Unless they remodeled NYNY doesn't have a great pool area. That end of the strip MGM, Monte Carlo or Mandalay Bay might be better.
Mid-strip we have stayed at the Mirage. It has a good pool area and it is right next to the Forum Shops (going south) which ajoins Caesars. Right across the street is the Venetian/Palazzo. You can catch the tram to Treasure Island which is the casino/hotel to the north. Agree with a PP about staying at the south end one night and then mid-strip the other.
As far as free shows the Mirage has a volcano that goes off every hour and TI has a pirates versus "sirens" ship battle every hour along the strip. It is about a 20 min. walk to the Bellagio fountain show
If possible do your Vegas trip during the week. Pool areas (and the rest of the strip)on our trips have had more of a party atmosphere on weekends.
