I have never been to Hartford before but we are going for the legofest at the convention center. I checked tripadvisor but all the expensive hotels have good rattings and the cheaper ones have bad rattings. I am wondering if anyone here has a recemendation on where to stay. We are willing to stay outside of Hardford if its cheaper and within a half hour drive of downtown. Any advice on where to stay would be appreciated. Its just for one night.

Not sure what your budget is, but in general you can find better places north of Hartford near Windsor. If you are doing this trip on a weekend traffic wont be an issue, traffic starts to come into play when you need to move during the week at rush hour times. There is a Hyatt in/near Windsor that will probably be around 90-100 a night. If you are looking for cheaper you can go south of Hartford and probably find a comfort or days inn for 25 to 30 dollars less per night, but they wont be great places to stay. Really depends on what you are looking for and what is your price preference.... if you want to take a bit of a risk, then I would say try priceline and do the name your own price, just make sure you put in 4 stars and anything that you might get would be decent... try a bid at around $50 the first time... if you don't have any luck let your husband do one for $60. I wouldn't really want to stay in any of the lower priced hotels in Hartford itself... safety can be an issue.

I'm not sure what your price range is. In August I stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites in East Hartford. I paid $129 a night (two nights) which included 4 passes to the Hartford Science Center. My room had two queens and a sofabed, free breakfast, indoor pool, no parking fee. When I priced it without the tickets it actually cost more per night. Since my reason to go was to meet up with friends at the Hartford Science Center and I needed to purchase 4 tickets it was perfect for us. Other area hotels cost over $200 for the same package at that time.

My house! Just kidding...but you may want to check out the hotels in Manchester near the Buckland Hills Mall area. 10 minutes to downtown and plenty of the standard type restaurants in the area. I work in Hartford, and yes, there are a few nice hotels, but you'll be kinda stuck for food to either the convention center, your hotel, or the science center (which is a good little cafe BTW). Although, now that I think about it, you could even stay across the bridge over at the Hampton or another one over there, I think they just renamed it the Grand Hotel (or something like that) in East Hartford. You could easily walk over the Founders bridge to the Lego Kidsfest.

Yes there is a Ramada Inn in East Hartford that is real close, also there are a few in Glastonbury I know there is a Hilton and another one not sure of the name but my Aunt stayed at the Hilton a few years ago and was amazed that she got the rooms for 79 a night. Glastonbury is a smaller nice town not a lot of crazy traffic like Manchester has. and its very close to Hartford also..Good Luck on your hunt...

Cromwell isn't too far away either (maybe a 1/2 hour if that). Plus it is right off of 91/route 9. And there are alot of places to eat around there too.

Not sure what hotels are in Cromwell but I know there are a few.

You can look at Windsor Locks too. There are several motels on Rt 75, Ella Grasso Tpke that are reasonably priced and within 10 minutes of the airport.

ETA Windsor Locks is about 15 minutes North of Hartford.

You might want to look in Rocky Hill. It's right off I-91. There's a Marriott Courtyard and a Marriott Residence. My Dad live near both and they are in a good area. Also there are a few great restaurants within 3 minutes of both hotels. Awesome Italian food! You can PM me if you want a list of restaurants.
