We changed our ressie dates. We wre going mid-Jan, but decided it was too close to race time to miss out on Daytona. We couldn't get any availability for the 500 race, but will be going to the Bud Shootout and the ARCA race. Since we changed dates, we will not be staying @ the BWV, but @ OKW. Can anyone give us an ideal location to be in. We will have a car, but will be using park transportation.

P.S. It is our first stay @ OKW.

Thanks,

That's a tough one. Give us more details as to what your party is like and what is important to all of you.

My family prefers to be in building 63 or 64. It is close to the main building, main pool, and Hanks. I have 3 DD's and it is easier for us to walk to all that from these buildings. Many others prefer the quietness of South Point (in later years, I will too!!). There are many bus stops along the way.

Tell this board what you like and you will get lots of answers!!

Have a wonderful time.

Just back, we stayed in building 14. It was perfect for us (3) we had a studio on the second floor. The building is right across the road from the Hospitality House, the bus stop, the main pool, the Community Hall, Hank's Rent'N Return,Olivia's Cafe...everything offered at Turtle Krawl Activity Area.
We had our own car also and used it instead of Disney's transportation, which was running very slow that week.

Have a great time.:bounce:

It is just DH & myself. We prefer not to drive to the parks. Being close to a bus stop, food or humanity would be nice, but not absolutely necessary. We are staying in a studio. Like I said, this is the first time we have been to OKW. We aren't that picky. If anyone has an ideal location that is near the bus stops and somewhat near the main building for food would be okay!

Thanks,

Can you call DVC and request a building?

For this stay, we are renting points from someone. BUT, our DVC papers will be here tomorrow!

You can request buildings or areas. I think it's best not just to list one building but an area in case that one building is not available. Like 23 to 26 or 62 to 64. You can also list views (golf course, water, woods) and floors (1,2,3). Or you could say "near a bus stop" or near a certain pool. If you are renting points, the member will probably have to make the request. You could also send a fax or call 4 or 5 days prior to arrival, but it's usually best to have it with the original reservation. DVC is supposed to grant the requests by date order of requests.

With a studio, I would request a top floor. The vegetation usually blocks out the view from most studio balconys.

Las Feb. we had what I thought was a great location. I think it was building 27(not sure). It was over the bridge, opposite the pool and the canal. The veranda overlooked the golf course. It was close enough to the main areas of the resort which was helpful if someone needed to return to the room for something- with 3 kids, that is almost inevitable. Also I was able to leave my husband and the kids at the pool while I left to start dinner or whatever--.

We had a 1st floor studio-5010- at the end of South Point-It was awful! It was a room for a disabled person, there was less counterspace to accomodate the wheelchair, I guess..we're not disabled...no tub, no view, and forget about quiet..it was close to the airconditioner units and the main road-very noisy...also 2/10 of a mile to the nearest bus stop/ice machine, etc. Avoid it like the plague...I think the idea of getting a 3rd floor room may help, ask to be near a bus stop...my only request was to be near a pool... which by the way was no where near us either...this is a terrible location. Maybe everywhere else on property is nice, the main building area seemed lovely. Personally, after our experience, we don't plan on ever going back to OKW if we don't have to...

Good luck.

Paul

What a shame! Although BWV are our home resort, we always stay at OKW. The rooms are bigger and we have always had a great room and location, and we have had studios, 1BR's and 2BR's. With small children I always like the seclusion and laid back atmosphere of OKW.

I would suggest that if you are not satisfied w/ a location to speak to the front desk and ask them to give you another location if possible.

We always stay in the turtle pond area and have a great time there. They have a great pool located in that area and it's always
quiet and very relaxing. We also have a picnic next to the pool and cook on the grills they have there( need to bring your own charcoal though) I hope you enjoy your stay. JP;)
