We just booked the Barcelona to Dover cruise! We want to fly in a few days in advance to enjoy Barcelona before the cruise. Any recommendations on where to stay? Or any recommendations/tips in general regarding taking a cruise from an European port? Thanks in advance!

I stayed at the Acta Atrium Palace last summer and loved it. Walking distance to a lot of things.

Depends on how many people are in your travel party. We have 6 of us so we needed something to accommodate that many (which is difficult to find I found out). We ended up booking Aspasios Ramblas Catalunya Suites as they have apartments/suites that can accommodate from 2 to 10 people. Plus this location we booked is right around the corner from Casa Batllo so we are close to the HOHO and other transportation. We are planning on taking the aerobus to the city center and then walking to the hotel a few blocks. After our cruise we are staying at the Amister suites for a night which is right there at Placa de Catalunya.

Where do you want to visit (Las Ramblas, Gothic quarter, etc. )?
I highly suggest Hotel Colón

We stayed at the Le Meridien right on Las Ramblas. Great location. It was one of the DCL hotels, but it was a LOT cheaper to book online on my own than to go through DCL. Great room. Easy to get to port. Near the subway. Close to a grocery and all the restaurants and shopping of Las Ramblas. But, again, depends on how many in your party. We had 2 adults and 1 child and that worked great.

We stayed at the Violeta Boutique, it was reasonably priced and in a great location it was walking distance to most sights and had lots of good restaurants nearby.

Thanks, everyone! There will be 4 of us (2 adults and 2 kids... 5 and 10 year olds). This will be our first time to Barcelona so still researching what to do/see there!

Are your kids willing to share a bed with each other? (If they are not it is a lot harder to find 3 beds, and a roll away will most likely be necessary)

I have been researching Barcelona hotels intensively for the last week. In August we are going to Portugal for a wedding and then spending 5 days in Barcelona. I am checking out hotels for our group of 9 (4 separate couples/families). I think we want to stay near the Gothic Quarter but looked at hotels all over so that may change.

Some of my short list are:

Hotel Colon
Hotel Jazz
Hotel Continental Barcelona
and a ton more!!!

There are so many choices in Barcelona.

We stayed in the Renaissance, a DCL hotel near Gaudi structures and not far from La Rambla. DCL arranged and it was pricy, but Disney had a desk in the lobby to help with reservations, sites to see, etc. The hotel staff were great with using what transportation to get to what attraction. Easy to get on bus there and go to ship which is not far away. If you are looking for top attractions, check TripAdvisor. Also, watch for pickpockets...they got me (not much, just day money, so I wear a money belt under shirt with passports, serious cash, etc.). They are the best in Europe, even employing kids (smaller hands). Check YouTube videos on this problem.

We have been to Barcelona a number of times and won't stay anywhere but the Casa Camper--on a quiet street close to Las Ramblas, great complimentary food all day, helpful front desk...

Before my transatlantic cruise last year I stayed one night at the Hilton Diagonal Mar (loved it) but that is too pricey for this trip since we need a place for 5 nights.

Two summers ago we stayed at Petit Palace Boqueria Gardens for 4 nights before our cruise. We were able to get a quad room for our family of four at a reasonable price and a great location.

We stayed there for our 2015 cruise. Having the link to DCL was nice and the location was in walking distance to lots of places.

If you stay at a DCL hotel, will they pick up your luggages from the hotel and deliver them to your staterooms? Like how they do it in the US if you use stay at the resort hotels and take the Disney transportation.
