Where to stay for one night?

We are arriving on Dec 26th :santa: this year for a week long stay off property. But, since we have 16 banked points that we must use by the end of Feb 09 before they expire we thought we would stay the first night in a studio.

Just wondering what everyone's recommendation would be for our family of 5 including DD3, DD7, and DS16? Since the point value is so high on a Friday and it is only one day, I figure we can get by with a studio. For value, comfort and convenience I am curious what you would recommend.

Either way, I am going to be sorry :sad1: to leave DVC and stay elsewhere for the rest of the week but the plan was out of my hands.

You don't have enough points to stay at any of the DVC resorts on Friday night, December 26th. You can stay one night at OKW, BWV, or AKV during your trip, but not on a Friday or Saturday night. Since 1 child is under 3, you can stay in a studio, but the sleeping arrangements may be a little odd.

Did you just purchase DVC? How do you have 16 banked points, but have only stayed off-site in your siggy, and are staying off-site again? I don't understand. Can you borrow '09 points so that you can use more than 16 points? Are you awaiting your 1st "real" DVC stay for a non-Christmas week?

Finally, what is your home resort, and what do you find important for your stay? Ultimately, if you do have the points, I would reserve at my home resort before the 7 month window, then go for VWL for the great Christmas atmosphere, and then because of the busy season - really take whatever I could get. I might also consider the AKL 1 bedroom that sleeps 5 for the more convenient sleeping arrangements.

Boardwalk is always a great choice. (See siggy) ;)

Good luck with whatever you decide.

The minimum for a Studio on Friday Dec 26th would be 27 points at AKV (value).

AKV Std is 32 points, OKW is 36, BWV Std is 38, SSR is 39, AKV Savanna is 40, BWV Pref, VWL, BCV are all 43, and AKV concierge is 45.

Of course having the points is only one side of your problem. Most likely, there aren't any Studios still available for Dec 26th. This would be especially true for the ones that use the fewest points.

I am sorry that I was not more clear (it was a little late). I have 16 banked points from 2007 but I have all of my 280 points for 2008. I do not have any plans as of yet for my 2008 points.

My home resort is SSR. We have stayed at SSR and BCV as far as DVC resorts go. I was thinking AKV in a value, but then I read how small those rooms are. Now, I am thinking BWV since it is less points than SSR and is conveniently located on the boardwalk and close to Epcot.

I know for only one night, it really shouldn't matter, but I was curious what people had to say.

I'd try for any resort -- it's only one night after all. Will you be using 2008 points to complete the reservation?

Yes, we will have to use 2008 points to have enough to "pay" for the one night. I am just not used to using that many points for one night. We usually stay in a one bedroom during at most, Dream season. I am trying to decide if I should take the rest of my 2008 points and bank them and plan to use those with my 2009 points and do a cruise. We have never done a Disney cruise and I have read such great things. Although, I have also read that it is not the wisest use of your points.

I just figured that I would hear why people would recommend one over another and then make my choice. I think it would be nice to try something new.

I recommend you first call DVC Member Services and see just what is available. That alone might narrow your choices considerably.

Good Luck. Having even one night at Disney is still 'magical'.

Oh, I agree. I have a ressie already at SSR but was going to waitlist for another resort. Again, it would be nice to try something new.
