My friend and I are looking into doing a short 4 night stay on site early December 2021 with our children (one girl, one boy, Both will be 5 and are BFFs). I am usually an offsite girl, but have an AP and my friend likes to stay onsite so since our trip is short I agreed to onsite. I am leaning towards staying at Poly because my son loves Moana and the new renovated Moana rooms, but I think we would really love any deluxe resort for the trip. I'm thinking we will likely focus on HS and MK this trip. I really don't want to have to worry about a car, so best fasted resort transportation is key. I don't want to have to rely on busses.

Any other recs for resorts? I'm open to points rental, could I get a regular Moana room renting points? Anyone stayed at the Grand Destino Tower at Coronado and can recommend it? Which resort would be best for location when visiting both MK and HS?

Thanks all!!

I don't think Moana rooms are DVC, but I could be wrong. With kids I would consider Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's pretty amazing.

With HS and MK being your focus this trip, you will have to rely on buses (or uber/lyft) at some point, unless you are planning to do a split stay (which I would not recommend for this particular trip). If you think you will be doing 2 MK days and 1 HS day, I would go for an MK resort. Poly or WL would probably be a good fit for you.

As @rwdavis2 mentioned, the Moana rooms are not DVC. But based on the pictures I've seen of the Moana rooms, I think they would be a good option for your party.

Happy planning! :)

If you can swing it, I think the Poly would be a lovely option since it will have been recently refurbished and have that new resort feel. The Moana rooms really are themed well and will be a delight for your son! The walking path is open as well and will be a good way to outwalk the crowds at the monorail and such.
You could always go for a resort on the boardwalk area if HS is more of a priority, of course. Or a resort on the skyliner, but I think I would be a bit apprehensive with 50th anniversary holiday crowds there.

I think doing Uber to HS would be much easier than MK so I say stay at the Poly. The rooms will be newly refurbished. The kids like moana. Great QS options. The monorail. The walking path. It’s a great choice!

If you’re going to spend more time at HS then I would do BC.

Early December is a great time to visit but you're very late for any kind of DVC studio rental unless you want SSR.

Having said that, PVB (the Poly DVC side) was not part of the Moana refurb and would not have the Moana theming when December rolls around. PVB is scheduled for a soft goods renovation 2021 but there is no indication as to when that may start. My guess is that it won't begin at least until the hotel side is complete. And there are no guarantees that PVB will get a Moana theme since DVC has been gravitating to a generic look that mimics any hotel room.

But I would still lean toward Poly for kids in that age group. While the GDT is lovely, it really doesn't have the kid appeal that Poly has and you would need to take a bus to all parks.

I would vote for Polynesian or Wilderness Lodge. While you would need the bus for HS from either, you'll have multiple transport methods to MK. Also, if you don't take the boat, the bus from WL to MK is pretty short.

I wouldn't choose GDT as it's solely reliant on buses.

Thanks all great input! I was also leaning towards Poly or WL as they are both deluxe and i think the kids would love it. I'm really thinking I want to try the poly. but that sticker price slightly makes me want to barf. I could probably take 2 weeklong vacations for the price of 4 nights at the Poly. Thanks! I've got alot of research to do.
