Where to stay (and how to get to DW) with a 6 month old

Hello all! I posted this on the resort board, but thought I would also post it here since our main concern is traveling with our (will-be) 6 month old.

We are thinking of taking a trip down to Disney World within the next few weeks, but was wondering a few things regarding taking a 6 month old and where would be the best (easiest) place to stay.

In previous years, we stayed at the CR and enjoyed it very much so especially with it being so close to MK (since that is where we spend most of our time) and being on the monorail.

My question is this though, if we decide to stay at a deluxe resort (most likely the CR, but possibly the Poly) we will need to drive down for $$ reasons. However, IF we were to stay at a moderate resort we could afford to fly down instead.

Which would you do/find the best/easiest to do with a 6 month old? We would take 2 days (spend 1 night on the way down and back) to drive as we live in Michigan. Would it be better to stay closer to MK and drive down with an infant or make the getting there part as quick as possible (fly down) and stay at a moderate resort and rely on bus transportation?

Any helpful info would be much appreciated!!

Thanks,
Deb*

I think it depends on your baby's personality. If you think your baby can take 2 days in the car, than I would consider driving. Also, consider that it might take longer than usual to drive with the feeding/changing stops. My ds would have been fine, but my dd, not a chance. It would have taken a week to get there, and we would have all suffered hearing loss from the screaming!

Personally, I like to have a car with me, and since budget wise we can't swing 4 plane tickets and a rental car, we drive from Mass, but my kids were 1 and 3 before we tried driving, and we had a dvd player.

On the other hand, we have depended entirely on WDW busses etc for a few trips when the kids were younger and it has gone smoothly. The one drawback was lugging the strollers on and off, and having to wake baby who has just fallen asleep to take her out of stroller just to get on bus. If you are planning to spend most of your time at MK and EPCOT, then fly down, stay at CR or Poly and use the monorail. That way you wont have to worry about collapsing the stroller when you ride. Hope this helps, after re-reading it I think I may have confused the issue. Anyway, good luck! Happy planning

but had planned on driving...16 hours was just too much with a new baby & a 7 & 4 year old...so when southwest put on a sale...we grabbed it. when we go again this winter, we're going to fly bc it really gives you an extra day at the parks (if you take a really early flight). i also rented a car too,...googled for rental car codes & got a couple of free days rental & upgrades.
good luck
