Read, read and read the threads here and write down points of interest. Read all the stickies and spend time on DVCNews.com. You can also purchase a Passporter
DVC guide and download it to your computer. Go to the DVC site and look at all the home resorts, to get an idea of whaich resort you like.
DVC works best for folks traveling to WDW at least every other year, want to stay in deluxe accomodations, and can afford the extra cost involved in traveling to Orlando regularly. I mean DVC only gets you the room, you still have to get there, buy tickets and eat. It is the general consensus that DVC points are best used at DVC resorts. Yes you can use them at other location but the point cost for those locations are almost cost prohibitive and you would do better owning a different timeshare say if you wanted to trade a week in the Carribean.
You need to be aware of the resale market,
point charts, picking a Home Resort, Banking, borrowing, and cancellation policies. It is also good if you split the purchase into smaller contracts. So if you are thinking you want 200 points, I would purchase 2-100 point contracts, titled exactly the same. That way you can leave each one to a child ore sell one off if needed. It is easier to unload a 100 point contract than a 200 point contract. I would maybe even try to get a 100, and then 2-50 point contracts. Anyway you see my point. It is also good to get a few extra points. DH and I were going to get 200 points, and ended up with 210...so we could get an extra night at times ore have a few extra if the
point chart changed.
