Where to sit on the plane...

Gosh...you would think we've never traveled before!

I was just curious as to what seats someone recommends for flying with two kids. DS 4 is, of course, in his own seat while DD 14 mo is in a lap. We are flying on Midwest Airlines with 2 or 3 across seating. I thought about putting us all in one row, but then thought I would try the 2 seat side reserving 3 of those seats in the hopes someone else wouldn't sit in the 4th seat and my DD could use it. My question is where is the best place to sit. Row 1 is booked (most leg room) and I don't think emergency exits are a good choice. On a return trip in 2004 we sat in the rear right by the engines. It was soooo loud and gave me a massive headache, but DS slept through it all which made it worthwhile...

What are you doing, and what are your opinions about my particular situation? Any help would be wonderful!

TIA! :yay:

Children can not sit in an emergency exit row.

The closer to the front of the plane the better in my opinion.

It's almost unrealistic to think that the window or aisle in the two across won't be booked. You might be better booking across one row, on the "two side" book the aisle, on the "three side" book aisle and window. If someone takes the middle seat the person by themselves across the aisle can offer to give up the aisle for the middle.

That said, flights are flying very full these days, and it's more than likely that alls seats will be taken.

Children under age 15 may not occupy an exit row.

If you preboard, please be considerate and wait until everyone else is off before you exit--if you need more time getting on, you'll need more time getting off, and holding up others is inconsiderate.

Booking seats in the rear of the plane might give you noisier seats, but it also puts you closer to the lavs--which can be important with little ones in tow.

I have to agree with what Anne says here, but I still think it's risky. If you try this, I would definitely arrive at the airport super-early so that an airline agent won't rearrange the seating assignments.

Let's say there's two people travelling together on your flight and one of them has been assigned that middle seat, and they want to sit together. If they check in before you do, the airline might move either you from the aisle or your daughter from the window. Yeah, the best solution for you would be to move your DH from the opposite aisle into that middle or move someone the middle seat occupant's companion is seated near, but at that time they'll be looking at what's best for that couple, not you.

I'm not trying to scare you, just trying to prepare you for what could happen.

The chances are extremely low that you will be able to get a free seat for your daughter. Plan on holding her unless you buy her a seat.

Get some ear plugs or use noise cancelling headphones.

We also try to sit as up front in the plane as possible. You will be first on and first off, which helps alot when traveling with kids!
Good Luck

I fly MWA almost exclusively, even though I live about10 minutes from O'Hare. Great airline. I will say in recent years that the planes do usually fly full, or very close to it. Enjoy the trip. :thumbsup2
