Where to go for just sushi? Kona Sushi or Cali Grill?

The title of the thread says it all. Where would you go for just sushi and a drink?

Both places have limited sushi choices available -- and very different atmospheres. I like Cali better becuase of the view, setting, show kitchen.

Kona sushi is more like what you'd find in a good business hotel lobby. But still fun.

You may be trying to stay at monorail area. But if not, try Kimonos at the Swan. Full bar, full sushi. Kareoke after 9:30p.

I keep hearing Kimono's is the best, but something about Kareoke and sushi gives me some fears. So does $15 rolls, but for Disney, thats to be expected.

Kimono over at the Dolphin or Swan? Amazing! Worth every penny and within walking distance of Epcot It is non-Disney so no dineing plan and no res. The singing starts later so go early to avoid it if you must.

I second Kimono's--we went at about 9 p.m. and karaoke hadn't really even started yet. We aren't big fans of karaoke, but we didn't have to suffer much, only a couple of songs. The sushi there is excellent! I'm bummed because I'm pregnant this trip so won't be able to get my fix!!

Kimonos opens at 5:30 and singing does not start until 9:30, so there's lots of quiet time. It can be pricey though (like most of WDW).

PP who is pregnant -- congrats! Can you still have nonfish rolls (like the Kimonos asparagus roll!!)

Can I ask you, did you use dining plan at all for that sushi platter or was it all OOP?

Meanwhile, on to the OP's question: I think it depends upon your level of committment, if that makes any sense. Like if you want to be in a more upscale atmosphere, go with Cali. But if you just want a casual, walk-up experience, the Kona bar is the way to go. Either way, YUM!!!!!!!

Um...I can completely see why!! I think I cried an actual tear for a second there. And I may have just emailed the picture of the shrimp tempura roll to DH.

I was only asking because someone else on another thread posted pics and said that they had a combo (not as big as yours!) of, like, tuna 3 ways and two other rolls and they charged her as if she'd had a filet so it was on the dining plan. Now I'm wishing and hoping and scheming... I've done the deluxe platter as my entree the past 2 visits and am looking for an alternative!

You can order any of the sushi at Ca. Grill as an entree on the dining plan, they will charge you two credits.

If you're on the deluxe plan you can order any sushi dish as an appetizer except for Yoshi's Deluxe Platter and the Snake in the Grass roll, these can only be ordered as entrees. So you could get two sushi dishes, and also a dessert, for two credits.

I do not know if they will do you a custom platter on the dining plan, but whatever they allow you to put together it will cost two credits.

I think what I've decided is that we'll do Kona Cafe for breakfast one day, so I don't know if we'll want to do Poly again for dinner. Maybe we will. But, it might be nice to go to Cali Grill or Kimonos for a nice change in atmosphere.

Do Kona Cafe or Kona Sushi need ADRs?

My husband and I walked into Kona Sushi on Monday at about 7 pm without ADRs and sat right down. There were a good number of empty seats. We really enjoyed it for our purposes (a couple of drinks and a casual, light supper) before heading back to the parks. The fish was fresh and delicious.

Tokyo Dining wasn't *horrible*, but it was not great. I think Kimono's is probably your best bet.

We really enjoyed Tokyo dining and are going back for the 4th time next week.
