We have a trip paid for to WDW in Nov. and after a trip to the ER last night,I am wondering about maybe buying trip insurance.I know we can not get it now from Disney, but we booked with AAA agent and was wondering who has the best deal for getting trip insurance now? Also what all does it cover? Has anyone had to use it and how did it go?Any help would be great.

Try www.insuremytrip.com. There are several insurers from which to get pricing. Different policies and companies offer different coverages, so you'll have to look at what you're buying.

I'm not sure why the website name didn't come up. If it's a banned site, I apologize.
Insure my trip.

Another vote here for IMT. I have bought policies for cruises from them many times. I've never had to file a claim but they were very helpful on the phone a few years ago. We had an Alaskan cruise booked and prepaid several excursions to qualify for a discount. (Not our usual inexpensive beachy excursions, but helicoptering up on a glacier for a trek.etc)

Our sick time and vacation time had just been merged to one bank and I started worrying if I should have some illness, accident, or surgery prior to the trip it could potentially wipe out all of my vacation time.

IMT helped me find a policy that covered "cancel for work reasons" in addition to the usual coverage. It gave me peace of mind for sure.

Remember that trip insurance, depending on the terms of the policy, covers only non-refundable costs...so for example if you booked your trip in such a way that you need to cancel BEFORE you leave, and Disney will refund all but $200 of your hotel costs, that's what the trip insurance will reimburse...$200...plus whatever other non-refundable costs are 'lost'. Tickets to the park may NOT be refundable because you may still be able to use them in the future.

You should really total up what your true loss would be and then decide if paying the premium makes sense.

Many people (myself included) insure only my cruises because there are big non-refundable dollars at stake. Recently we returned from a week long trip to Vegas and the Grand Canyon. I did not insure that trip because I had very little 'at risk' before the trip; everything could be canceled the day before and I would get my money back. Airfare is a different story, but because we flew Southwest I knew I would have a credit to use.

For future reference, you should buy trip insurance as soon as possible after paying for your trip.

I used to recommend Travel Guard, but both a family member and I have had a terrible time getting them to process and pay very straightforward and uncomplicated claims. I will not use them again.

Your AAA agent can set you up with the correct insurance too. They can pull from a variety of plans and find the one that fits your needs.

I generally only buy trip insurance for international travel for the medical evacuation coverage and for vacation rentals in the US. Otherwise, for a domestic trip, I agree that it may not be worth the money.

Used IMT last year for an Alaskan cruise and had to file a claim as we had to cancel after final payment was due. For Disney this year we used to again but only to insure the airline tickets.

We are worried about if something would happen during our trip.We have medical insurance, but wonder about the cost if we needed to fly home sooner than our last day there. Also since he now has a condition that he didn't have before,I know alot of place will not cover if his condition if it caused him to need to come home early.

Fly Southwest. They are very flexible with rescheduled trips.

You will need to make sure you get a travel insurance policy that covers "pre-existing conditions" (PECs) if someone in your party already has medical needs that might be cause for interruption or cancellation of your vacation. Most policies that cover PECs must be purchased within a certain timeframe after making initial deposit (often 7-14 days), but I believe it is possible to find coverage after you have made final payment. It will limit the options available to you, and be aware that at this point it likely will cost you more, so you'll need to weigh the decision about spending that much on the insurance vs how much might be lost without insurance.

As mentioned above, check the change policy for the airline you have booked. If you fly home early (or late) you won't be out the full cost of the fares, but rather for most airlines it would be the difference in fare plus a change fee.

With regards to medical, most travel insurance policies will require you to submit to your primary medical insurance first and the travel insurance would then cover the rest (copays, co-insurance, deductibles, etc.).

Enjoy your vacation!
