I'm currently working, but may need to start looking for a new position soon. Started checking Monster and Career Builders online, but it seems like there are very few, if any, listings in my industry, in my county. I live in NY, in Nassau County. I know the days of the huge classified section in the local paper are gone, but is there somewhere else to look I am not thinking of? I hope I will not need to use this DIS advice, as I would prefer to stay at my current job, but I'd like to be prepared if I am let go :sad2:....

I agree with Craig's List, a friend of mine found her job there. I also peruse the websites of the companies in the area. What about a headhunter or employment service?

I check directly on the websites of the companies I would like to work for. I have them all bookmarked and I look at them at least once a week.

HI Frannn

I live in Suffolk County, and my DH was looking for work too. I just happened to be playing around on the computer, and found this site.

http://www.jobboardreviews.com/

It had some local jobs on it for us.

Good luck! its horrible out there!;)

Check to see if your local unemployment/human services department has an online job search program. I know many companies list directly through CalJobs here in California (and you can search by county/career field/etc.; w/o all the "work from home" junk ads that you get on other online sites). Also, check your local community college/trade school/college for a career center (sometimes they are online, sometimes you have to physically go in and check the boards or they "match" you in their database). Of course, you could always do some cold calls to businesses in your field and ask HR if they are/will be hiring for your position.
