I'm trying to decide where to eat on our first day in Disney. We'll be staying at WL and we may not go to the parks on our arrival day depending on how the kids feel after the drive. My original plan was to go to spend the first day swimming and go to Chef Mickey's for dinner. Now I think we'll be doing CM later in the week to celebrate DD's birthday. (She wants to celebrate with Minnie and I don't want to do her birthday the first night we're there.) Any suggestions? We'll have AP's or hoppers so we can go to the parks if we want to.

I would suggest just sticking around the resort, and eat at Whispering Canyons Cafe. If the first day is the day you arrive, you might not want to travel far for dinner. One of the nearby resort restaurants (GFC or Trails End) might be nice too.

Head over to DTD and grab a bite at Earl of Sandwich...nice and easy!

If everyone is up to it, I would head over to Downtown Disney also. Earl of Sandwich is great and you can hit Ghiradllis (sp?) for ice cream afterwards.

Funny, you are staying where we start our trips. Our family tradition starts by going to WCC our first night every trip. We don't go to the parks on the first day, so it gets us in a Disney mood, silly and fun, and we love the food (Unlimied milkshakes make the kids happy). We love it there. You wouldn't have to go far so you can get to bed early for an early morning the next day. I know your kids would enjoy it and I bet you would too!!!

I'm going to try Chef Mickey's for our first day.

We have always stayed off site nad just done something offsite the first day.

Our first day is just one night at Pop so we won't have our dining plan or tickets yet.
I think the plan is to swim and head over to DTD and hit Earl of Sandwhich or WPE. Then we'll wander around and look in all the stores.
A nice easy night to get rested for the big day ahead:)

You could also take the boat from WL to Contemporary, hop on the monorail and dine at 1900 Park Fare at GF. There you can see Cinderella, her prince, the stepmother and stepsisters. Or, get off at the Poly instead and do Ohana for dinner.

After you can take the monorail back to Contemporary, do a little browsing in the gift shop or watch fireworks from the observation deck (depending on your timing). A boat ride back to WL and you are done. If you get lucky maybe you can ride in the first monorail car.

What about O'hana at the Poly? That, or dinner at DTD is usually my 'first night' dinner.

Trails End is w/in walking distance to WL. There is also the entertainment value of the Chip & Dale hosted campfire after dinner followed by a full length Disney movie. Be sure to check for an updated menu as I understand its been thinned down, but hopefully it will still contain items your family will love.

We always eat at Capn Jacks on our first day there because our plane lands to late to go into the parks. While we are at Capn Jacks our lagguage gets delivered and we go back to POR to unpack.
However since you are at WL and you are already go to go swimming you might consider Whispering Canyon. The food is great and the atmosphere is fun. Enjoy
