Where to eat: Kona or California Grill???

I honestly don't know how to compare the two... These two restaurants are very different in price and atmosphere. I think you should base your decision on how much you want to spend and how much time you have. If you want a nice sit down dinner and you have the time to kill and don't mind the cost then absolutely go with California Grill. If you want something a little faster and not as expensive then you'd better go with Kona.

I agree- they are really apples and oranges. Kona is a nice alternative if you are looking for a good meal, less expensive, coffeeshop type atmosphere. California Grill has a more gourmet menu, amazing wine list, great views of the MK- but it will run you a lot more money and time. Both are very good in their own category but very different.

Both are two of our favorite restaurants on property. Like the other posters said it is very hard to compare these. If money is no object, and you do not have really young ones then I would go to California Grill. We have a 1 year old and by choice this is not somewhere we would decide to go with him. This is a loud setting, but the view and food is truly amazing!!! You will find alot of families at any WDW restaurant. If you go to :thumbsup2 CG try the flatbread, and the pork tenderloin with polenta!

Kona will not disappoint if you decide to eat here! They have great crab cakes and all of the entrees we have had are delicous.

:cool1: My ideal plan if I were you would be CG with wishes seating, followed by breakfast the next day at Kona for macadamia pancakes and pressed pot coffee!

I should have been clearer, sorry. We are on the dining plan so it isn't so much cost - but is CG worth 2TS. We have 3 kids ages 6, 4, and 2 at the time of trip and I'm worried about waiting so long for food at CG. Everyone talks about lingering over the meal, my kids aren't supper great at that unless there will be enough for them to distract them. Thanks maybe now you can provide a better picture of what would be best. I heard great things about Kona (and we are changing resorts today to the Poly) but didn't know anything about atmosphere.

Thanks.

With the kids those ages personally I would go to Kona. It is very casual, but great food.

For future knowledge, CG is definitely worth 2 TS in my opinion.

Hope this helps, check our ticker 21 days till our first stay at the Poly! We are so excited.

With three kids, all under age 7, I would go with Kona. I really think they will like it more because there is more to see than if you don't get a window seat at California Grill. It is more casual, but the food is excellent and well worth the trip! :)

I have to agree. Last time we ate at GC our service was ssssllloooowwww. My kids are older than yours and are used to eating in restaurants, but by the end of the meal they were getting antsy.

We are trying Kona for the first time next week and I can't wait!

I agree- with the kids I would skip CG until they were a bit older and hit Kona. We took my ds6 there last year for dinner and left dd2 with a sitter. He enjoyed the food (he is such a steakman) and loved the view, but after about 11/2 hours he was bored and ready to go.
