Where to eat in VB? And any activities for a 2yo?

We are headed to VB next month and trying to figure out what to do and where to eat. Any favorites? We are 2 adults and 2 kids - not picky eaters, but really don't want to eat fast food. And we will have a car.

As for activities, we have a 2yo. Are there any activities scheduled for that age group?

There are really not many activities for 2yr olds. Some stuff they can do, but nothing geared to that age. It's a great resort however. Your 2yr old will enjoy the pirate ship at the pool for sure.

We went to Vero last year and we went to the Ocean Grill on the recommendation of a few locals. It did not disappoint. The food was unbelievably good!! They have a wide variety of seafood, steaks, etc. and a children's menu. Make a left out of the VB resort and continue all the way down until you see the ocean grill on the left - it's quite a ways down so don't get worried!
Suggestion = order the kids the shark tooth sundae! It comes with a real shark tooth in a vero beach souvenir container that they can take home - my daughter still treasures it!!
Have a great time!!

I agree with the post about not alot of "parent free" events but there are things like bubbles, sidewalk chalk drawing, tiny tots parade and a few others that escpae me that a 2 year old could attend. My soon to be 5 year old has gone every year since she was an infant and she has always been on her feet and active going here and there whether at the pirate ship or the sand area or an activty. The campfire is also a must for kids (adults too) of all ages.

Restaurants - the on site restaurants are good and very kid friendly (naturally) :) Ocean Grille is good but i suggest getting there a little early with the little ones because it does develop into an older crowd at night. Squid Lips is also a great family place in Sebastian (about 5 - 10 min drive) Squid Lips Tip - get an extra order of french fries and bring them out to the dock out back after dinner to feed the fish. There must me 100's of fish feeding off the french fries. You might also get lucky and see manatees and dolphins as we have in the past. Orchid island Pizza has good pizza and delivers to you Villa room and to the lobby of the Inn.

Another Fun family activity is the family dive in movie. They show a movie while everyone sits aroiund or in the pool. Very nice!!!!

Have a blast Im in BWV 19 days from now and 27 days until VB!!!!

DH and I used to just stay at the resort for our meals, but last time we went off property and enjoyed very good food for much less.

Captain Hiram's and Squid Lips are both very relaxed and very good food. They're almost next to each other. We have not been, but Ocean Grill is a favorite for many.

Hope you have a great time!!

We very much enjoyed Squid Lips this June, before that we liked Capt. Hiram's, but wanted a change. I can't wait to try Ocean Grill. We enjoy a meal or two at Shutters every visit as well.

I checked the June activity sheet for the week we were there. The minimum age that's mentioned is 3 for the activities. Some involved small coins, a treasure hunt...and so I think the "not for under 3" toy warning must come into play.

My kids have been going since before they could walk and love VB as much (or even more) than the onsite resorts..

Like others have mentioned there are a few activities geared for toddlers.. Bubbles, treasure hunt, and a few crafty things in Community Hall..

With the Pirate Ship waterslide, the pool, and the beach, your son should be quite entertained...

Also.. One of the greatest things about VB is that you are ALWAYS close to your room... If your son gets tired, getting back to take a quick nap isn't an issue.. :cloud9:

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions! And thanks for the tip about the extra french fries too! :thumbsup2

For some reason, I was having trouble finding information about the immediate area, but I knew that I could count on people here being in the know!

BTW, it is DD that is 2.

DH and I just returned from our first trip to VB and WOW did we love it! We had a perfect vacation and are already itching to go back.

Thanks to tips I learned here, we tried the Ocean Grill and Captain Hiram's, and we loved them both. The Ocean Grill was a fabulous meal with tremendous service. I didn't catch our waiter's name, but he bore a striking resemblance to the actor Ed Harris, and he was personable and professional. We loved the food, especially the bubbling crab dip appetizer. The Dis Boards did not steer us wrong!

Captain Hiram's was also good, though we liked the bar a lot better than the restaurant. We thought the food was good, but not spectacular, but really enjoyed our table for two right on the water. We went over to the bar after we had dinner, and that was the highlight for us. (You can bring kids in there...there were several little kids dancing, even. I saw something about not having little ones after 9:00, but that wouldn't be an issue with a 2 yr. old, I suppose.) The tables in the sand, the great server, and the music were all that I hoped for after reading about Captain Hiram's here. We decided that next time we will skip the restaurant and just hang out in the Sand Bar. One other tip here is that our server in the restaurant (accidentally???) gave us change for fifty dollars instead of the sixty dollars we gave her. Then she just "happened" to have the extra ten dollars right in the bill folder when we asked her about it. Count your change.

The cast member at check-in also suggested the Riverview Cafe, and it did not disappoint either. I had a great crabcake sandwich, though it was so large I ended up eating it with a fork and knife (not a complaint!). This place was a little hard to find, but worth the effort. All of the food appeared to be homemade, and the coleslaw was extra-good.

Finally, I have to recommend the Sunday brunch at the resort. It includes a mimosa, bloody mary, or glass of champagne, and the food is the best buffet brunch food I can ever remember having. It started with a delicious shrimp chowder and went all the way to wonderful desserts of peanut butter mousse in a chocolate shell, key lime pie, and turtle cake. YUM! We plan to include a Sunday on our next visit as well, just to go to this brunch. Delicious! And really not crazy-expensive when you consider what you get. With everything included, $25 is not out of line, especially when I compare it with what we spent elsewhere.

Have a great trip. I think you'll find lots of fun things to do with your two year-old. The pirate ship was keeping lots of toddlers busy, and just walking on the beach picking up the zillions of shells should keep one happy as well.
