Where to eat in MK with food allergies and vegetarian?

We’re trying to figure out where to eat in MK? We were originally planning to boat over to Whispering Canyon for a late lunch but don’t think we want to lose that much time. We only have 1 day at MK.

We have a teen that is a vegetarian and doesn’t like most “fake meat” either. We also have a child with dairy and nut allergies.

We’re open to table or QS though would probably prefer not to spend too much time dining.

I’ve read tons and just can’t find anything with a menu that works in the park and gets decent reviews. Maybe Cosmic Rays or Skipper Canteen?

If you’ve left the park midday for food, how much time did it take?

My son is allergic to nuts and lactose intolerant and DD is a vegetarian who also eats fish. We have had really good luck finding food for both in parks and also at resorts. Let them know when you make a reservation and also when seated. Several times the chef has offered to create something not on the menu. My daughter has got some lovely veggie pasta meals.
She was a CM and recommends Columbia Harbor House, YAK AND Yeti, Teppanedo, Creperie, and tip check carts for fruit, veg, Hippeas chick pea chips. My son got A tour of the buffet in Boma and shown what to avoid. Both were accommodated at the Hoop de Doo. The chef at Tony’s came to the table and gave them options. There are lots of options

This is great, thank you!

I would only leave the park if you have a lot of time to spare or really need a midday break to relax and rewind. If you would rather save time, I would stay in MK. I would probably lean toward Skipper Canteen if the menu works for your family. IMHO, it has the most interesting menu in MK and the best TS food. If Columbia Harbour House would work, I would choose that as a QS. Cosmic Ray's is confusing and chaotic, IMHO.

Thanks! I think we'll try to get reservations for Skipper and maybe bring in extra snacks for other times throughout the day. Harbour House doesn't work for us unfortunately. Pecos Bills menu works but I've been reading really bad reviews lately.

The QS restaurants take us 40 mins extra to order (mostly wait for the chef and then going through ingredients in each product). The popcorn at most carts is vegan (some do have special toppings/flavors that are not vegan). We do one QS and one TS because it’s essentially takes us the same time. We do end up going to Pecos bill because beans rice guacamole (disgusting prepackaged one) and chicken is safe for him.

You can do any of the restaurants and fill out a special diets form. At CRT our son was able to get noodles with grilled chicken and marinara sauce and Tofutti ice cream! They did have ripple chocolate milk for him but initially the waitress refused to contact the chef and we got soy milk (we don’t give him soy products and he didn’t drink it). Eventually the chef (orig was our so substitute chef was overwhelmed) did stop by and apologize.

STK71 is at the Contemporary and they gave our son pasta (can’t recall if it was penne or spaghetti) with grilled chicken and Tofutti ice cream as well. They’re more reasonably priced. The walk can take 15-20 mins and the lunch menu is great. Their chocolate cake is made in house so is nut free (our teen is allergic to nuts/seeds). You can look at Jungle Navigation skipper canteen for vegetarian options.

The vegan dessert at BOG is wonderful and our son gets that substituted for his kids dessert (nothing else is safe). He preferred it over the dessert party allergy plate. You can order Erin McKenna sweets 3 weeks before your trip to any of the resorts or restaurants free shipping and add donuts, cakes etc. They bakes a horse shaped cake for our sons birthday how are you did it?

We recently found out about nowhey chocolate products (Enjoylife had back orders so just googled vegan chocolate). They have cookie decorating kits, special shaped chocolate lollipops and Easter bunnies, and their sunbutter cups are amazing (Disney has free2b and Enjoylife products at MNSSHP).

The special diets form is different now:

Erin McKenna baked a cake for our son’s birthday. It tasted ok but he was so happy to get an elaborate cake (actual cake post 3865 delivered to Art of Animation $79).

I want to try their mint Whoopi pies (they have good reviews):

Equastarian (nuts, sesame seed sunflower seed free cake at the contemporary for $100+tax+20 tip):

Thank you so much!

Also, sci fi has a vegan Oreo shake but by the rest of the food is just meh. Hollywood scoops does have Tofutti ice cream (chocolate and vanilla). I believe they can add vegan cookies as well.

Pineapple dole whips are vegan (along with some other flavors). Boma gave a flamingo vegan cake for our son which was delicious (spiced chocolate cake with chocolate icing). It’s also available at Mara

Art of Animation and Mara carry the Erin McKenna vegan mini brownies in their QS dining area. Animal kingdom (park) kiosk that carried them is never open when we are there. Info below is from 2019

Definitely go to Skipper Canteen in MK. DD22 is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, bananas and melons. (Also cannot have tofu/edamame) They are great with her allergies. We go every trip. Love the food there. Chef can easily customize a dish to suit your allergy and vegetarian needs. I absolutely love the Hardy Har Char Siu Pork dish.
