While my dd is at the Wonderland Tea Party having lunch the rest of us want to eat a picnic lunch. Are there tables or benches anywhere on the grounds of the GF where it would be discrete enough for us to eat? We'll be taking the monorail, so we can't sit in our van.

There is a self serve restaurant and game room called Gasparillas

Outside the door are nice tables with umbrellas to sit...right at the marina...you can see the castle and hear the wolves howling from the haunted mansion..

bring some crackers lots of birds & duckies around....

IT is really an awesome peaceful spot to sit and enjoy yourself for an hour or sooo..

YOu could also sit on a bench at the boatdock..but it is not as peaceful.

ENJOY!

Which is for the use of people buying food there.

If travelitis is paying for her little girl to go to the tea wouldn't it be okay for her family to be at the tables at Gasparilla's. I am not speaking from any experience at the GF but this seems rather harmless unless the area is overwhelmingly crowded. I understand that people are allowed to take food into the parks so it doesn't seem to me that this is a huge stretch. I'm sure this family has an excellent reason for the picnic. Please don't barbecue me, it's just my opinion and certainly one I would carry over to the Poly where we usually stay. Threehearts

I am not going to flame you in the least. I respect other people's opinions. I just stated the "rules" and did that only so the poster would not be in a situation where she may get embarassed.
No, food is not allowed in the parks, it is just one of those rules that are totally inconsistant.

Gail- Didn't I recently read a cut and paste of WDW's "official" word on food in the parks? It went something like..."you can carry a cooler into the park if you alone can transport it but no provisions are made for storing said cooler...". I got my info from a thread here on the DIS and perhaps I was wrong. Thanks for the info. Susan

I go and STAY at GF every year....there are indoor tables and outdoor tables close to the restaurant and then across the walkway closer to the Marina more tables...

THEY ARE USUALLY ALWAYS EMPTY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY...as people are usually at the parks. and if you are there with your child at the Tea party...You are I AM SURE more than welcome to use any common ground area in the HOTEL....

I have found DISNEY CM's to always be VERY KIND and Courteous...and i am sure they would welcome you to stay and wait for your child.

ENJOY YOURSELF!

Yes, I sure did copy and paste " Disney's Official Word" on food, it was applicable to water parks only.

Thanks, Gail. I wasn't clear on what parks or even if my recollection was correct. I'm glad you saw my reply. Threehearts

Thanks, Bella. I won't feel uncomfortable taking our lunch to the GF.

We want to picnic because the lunch options at GF don't appeal to us. Eating in restaurants is great to a point, but it does get old. The menus are so similar. This is a nice chance to relax, save a $, and add some variety. We have the Storybook Princess breakfast that morning (total of 5 character meals), so we're not going to want a big spread, and the Wonderland Tea Party is only an hour. Two days later we're going back to the GF to drop the boys off for the pirate cruise.

Taking food into the parks is always a hot topic for some reason. It never bothered me as long as picnicers didn't take up needed table space at outdoor restaurants.
