I have our breakfast scheduled at Hollywood & Vine for our day at Hollywood Studio's... but what about lunch or dinner? What would you recommend? We have the deluxe dining plan. Any reviews on 50's Primetime Cafe or Sci-Fi Dine in theater?

Sci Fi is good for lunch, they have a great burger. 50's Primetime is great for dinner. Pot Roast, Meatloaf, fried Chicken are all good. Or a good idea would be to eat at Starring Rolls for breakfast and use your dining plan credits for dinner at the Brown Derby. I'm not a big fan of the food at Hollywood and Vine.

We never eat lunch/dinner at HS... My suggestion, hop on a boat to Beach Club and eat at Cape May Cafe. Or Captains Grille at Yacht Club.

We do lunch at Mama Melrose & Dinner at the Brown Derby. There is a Fantasmic Dinner package available.

Sci-Fi has horrible wait times & 50's Prime Time Cafe' was ok but nothing special. We don't go there anymore. Sci- Fi we still do even after waiting over an hour our first time there. Now we do the latest ADR available if we want to eat there.

For lunch, Starring Rolls. It is "only" a CS but the sandwiches are awesome and the desserts are to die for. For dinner - the boat to the Epcot area resorts. TS and Signatures at BC/YC and the Boardwalk all get good reviews. In DHS itself for dinner......not so much.

I recommend sticking with Hollywood and Vine and doing Backlot Express (with counter service) or Sci Fi (with table service) for lunch and Sci-Fi or Prime Time for dinner. You could also try the Tune In Lounge for a quick drink/snack sometime-same food and decor/no attitude. :)

We love Sci-Fi and 50's! We normally do a late snack (3-ish) at Sci-Fi to split a couple of apps and milkshakes, then a late dinner after Fantasmic at 50's while the crowds clear out. We always make reservations at both.

If you are in the mood for a decent Counter Service, Fairfax Fare is on Sunset on the left going towards Tower of Terror. And if you happen to head that way, please tell Dorma Nesmond and Bucky Greenhorn that The Francos say hello and that we will see them soon!!!

We love Sci Fi. I will miss it on this trip. It is cheesy and fun.

Boyfriend's birthday dinner request was to eat at 50's Prime Time so we are going to Disney for his birthday. We love it! I don't think I have taken a trip to Disney and not eaten there. DS and Boyfriend love the fried chicken. And Boyfriend doesn't like fried chicken so that says a lot!!! The meatloaf was good too. I am seriously considering ordering the combo platter when we go in October just so I can try a little of all three best dishes. Plus I am sharing with DD.

We usually visit Disney during SWW and I insist on two table service meals when we go to DHS since it is too crowded to fight the crowds at counter service. These are the two we always go to. Sci Fi for lunch and 50's for dinner.

At Hollywood Studios, we have the same routine every time--which I love!

We always schedule Hollywood & Vine before park opening for breakfast. It really makes a difference to eat there early. Later in the morning, it is not as polished as it is right at park opening.

Then, for lunch, we either eat at Sci-Fi or 50s Primetime. Both are fun experiences. We never venture beyond the burgers and onion rings at Sci-Fi, but those are fine. What I like best about Sci-Fi is the old movie clips and purchasing a glow-in-the-dark ice cube with my soft drink! It's so much fun to have those glow cubes in a really dark restaurant. If we dine at 50s Primetime for lunch, we stick with the fried chicken or the pot roast. Both are good (although a little heavy for summer). We also engage the server in a little silly banter to make the experience more fun.

Then, for dinner, we usually eat at Mama Melrose's, which I love! I usually order the wood grilled tuna, and it is outstanding. Sometimes we go to Brown Derby for dinner instead, but the food has been hit or miss the last couple of times. Back in 2002-03, the food at Brown Derby was outstanding. I miss that.

We have never had a bad meal at 50's Prime Time. It's comfort food. Fried chicken and pot roast are my favorites and they are on both the lunch and dinner menus. Keep in mind it's a place where the servers are like family and they will have fun with you. If your family is very shy or doesn't like playfulness at meals this might not be the place for you.

Mama Melrosa's has changed their menu within the last year and it is now one of my favorite restaurants in all of Disney. I was never a big fan before but now it is excellent. Their flatbreads and pasta dishes are fantastic.

50's is not a bad choice but imo the food is never great. Not terrible either though. The atmosphere is nice and can be pretty fun with the right server.

Sci Fi -the atmosphere is great but the food is not up to par. If you go here just stick to simple foods like burgers and milkshakes.

Overall if you want the best atmosphere go to SciFi. If you want great food go to mama melrosa's.

50s is hands down a fave for our family, a must do each trip. On our longer trips, we try to eat at Mama Melroses.

We have never had a bad meal at 50's Prime Time.

Ditto! We eat there every trip - DW loves the pot roast, and I get something different every time. Although I always get the peanut butter and jelly milkshake!

Brown Derby is also very good, but completely different from the other restaurants in DHS. I've eaten there twice, both times Dining With An Imagineer, and the food was excellent.

I'd try and get the FDP at either Mama Melrose's or Brown Derby, but otherwise I'd rather eat at restaurants at the resorts in that area, Cape May Cafe, Kouzzina, or Flying Fish are all good choices, though they are all only open for dinner.

and if you see the pictures this Dis'er took at Sci-Fi, you may never eat there again!

plus this dining report shows how your party may be seated together (they were a party of 6) but you are sitting side by side - so not so conducive to conversation with your whole party...

We eat at Backlot Express for lunch (near Star Tours and Indy Jones - you do want to get in line BEFORE Indy lets out!!) nice a/c, a beer for Dad - and we're good to go!!

For dinner, as others have said - we take the boat over to the Boardwalk, eat at one of those fabulous places - Flying Fish, Kouzinna, or go into Epcot and Le Chef de Paris, Rose and Crown, Le Cellier etc...

Sci Fi is great for lunch!! The atmosphere is quite unique and a lot of fun. It is a drive-in, so dont expect gourmet food. The food is simple yet delish. I had very tasty ribs (not fatty at all). Burgers and shakes are great.

As for the seating arrangement, yes it is 2 per bench. I dont understand why ppl complain about this, its a drive in afterall. What do you expect? 6 in a row? Who ever saw 6 ppl in the front seat of a car? In a normal drive in, its always 2 ppl in the front and 2 in the back. Why would this be any different?? You spend time with the ppl in your party all day, so im sure you've had plenty of time to talk. :lmao: Im sure that would be a nice break. Besides, its a drive in. The idea is to watch movies while eating, not talk up a storm. If the seating arrangement doesnt appeal to your party, if you have to be facing everyone in your group and prefer to talk the entire time, then perhaps dining somewhere else would be best. But anyone that makes a ressie at Sci-Fi, I would think they know that most of their 'tables' are cars. Which is always 2 per bench. But they do have a couple of tables set up "within" a car for larger parties that prefer to sit side by side and talk.

I would recommend 50's for dinner. Its fun and the decor is quite unique. I personally thought my fried chicken was far too salty...table next to us said the same. So maybe it was an off day? but i'd give this place another chance. it was soooo much fun. our server was wonderful!! very funny lady.

We actually love Mama Melrose and the Hollywood Brown Derby. Both are good places to eat for lunch or dinner.

I'd try and get the FDP at either Mama Melrose's

We did this for the first time on our trip this past May and I would definitely recommend it. I was expecting egg noodles and ketchup but I was very pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed our meal at Mama Melrose's. And the reserved seating at F! was a nice bonus as well!
