We would like to have a table service meal while at Hollywood Studios. There arent many choices it seems...

We have a 5 year old and 2 year old, so something that is not that formal would be great. My DH really wants to make sure that its a substantial meal and that we get enough to eat! :)

Right now Im looking at Hollywood and Vine, Prime Time Cafe, Mama Melrose or Sci Fi Diner.

Suggestions or thoughts?

TIA
Bren

Sci Fi all the way! My family and I love it! We make sure to go every year. The food is great and it's laid back and kid friendly. While you eat the movie shorts are going on and you can talk loudly. Most the time we don't book our reservations there until we get to WDW, then you can call from your hotel.

When I was younger my favorite part was getting the light up ice cubes. They just made my day! Also it is close to the center of the park and easy to get to and on those hot FL days nice and cool and dark.

So I highly reccommend this resteraunt.

The Prime Time Cafe would be my second choice. They serve you nice home cooked-like food and the waitor/waitress is very interactive with your table. The waitor/waitress pretends to be a member of your family and this is very fun to go to.

Our kids (age 5) really enjoyed the interaction at Hollywod & Vine for lunchtime. Little Einsteins characters (Leo and June), and JoJo and Goliath were there. They come around for the autographs and every so often they play this loud music and the kids get up and dance around! It is a buffet so different types of food (they have this cornbread dish which is fabulous) and they have a dessert bar.

Well, it's between H&V and Primetime. I like Primetime better, but H&V will let you eat as much as you want and may have characters depending on time of day.

Out of those you mentioned, I would go with 50's Prime Time or Sci-Fi. H&V is one place we will never step foot in again (you couldn't pay us to eat there). Mama Melrose is where we always go, but we are two adults and I think the kids would like 50's or Sci-Fi much better.

We've eaten at PTC and we enjoyed it! The food was good and our waitress was hilarious. I had to sit in the middle of the room and get shamed by our entire room b/c I tattled on my kid sister. LOL

I could be wrong but I thought someone mentioned that the "problem" with Sci Fi is that if you sit in the cars you can't actually see everyone in your party (because you all sit facing the screens) so the only option is to sit at tables and then, what's the point b/c the cars are where it's at. Whoa, run on sentence!

You were tough:) :)

Our daughter started to cry   when the waitress scolded her for having her elbows on the table.

I would always say 50's Prime Time but with young kids you might be better at H & V.

Thanks for the suggestions...we are looking for dinner...Does Hollywood and Vine have characters at dinner?

We went to Sci-Fi when my kids were 7 and 3 - that was by far their favorite restaurant - we all loved it!

IMHO 50's PT and Sci-Fi are the best in the park. 50's PT would be a better choice for a full meal. Sci-fi is more of a hamburger and fries kind of place.

Mama Melrose is awesome! When we went there were a lot of kids dining there as well. The food was great and you will find plenty to choose from for your "substantial meal." It doesn't get the best reviews, and I was upset when I made my ADR's so late and couldn't get in anywhere else at the time we needed, but everyone in our party loved it! (I'm part Italian, too)

I would go to Hollywood & Winve with kids of that age. DD3 LOVED it for lunch, and according to my WDW dining book, they do dinner, too. Jojo, Goliath, June & Leo. You can't get much better than that.

Other people hated the food, but I didn't mind it. It was just a buffet, nothing to write home about, but there is always soft serve...

You should give 50s Prime Time Cafe a try. The food and atmosphere are both great. Make sure to get a milkshake if you do go!

Have a great trip!pixiedust:

Nope.

I'd vote for 50's PT. The main reason is what another poster said about Sci-Fi - with little ones, you're gonna have a bit of a challenge with them in the cars since you all won't face each other. It's dark in there, and they may or may not get the campy clips on the screen.

50's is just fun for us.

50's Prime time is awesome. Then again I haven't been to the others. I HAVE however been to the CS meals and don't like any of them. :sad2: If you eat CS and are in HS, go out of the park!!

But the TS restaurants all sound good. 50's Prime Time was just pure FUN. On our first trip to WDW in 2007, we ate there for lunch one day. My DD8 didn't finish all of her meal - she left a few string beans on her plate.

The waitress took away her plate, carded her for not eating her string beans. Came back with a yummy looking dessert!! Lo and behold what was in that dessert??? Her string beans!! LOL :rotfl: If you could have seen my 8 yr olds face you would have died from laughter.

Of course they brought her a "good" sundae after that but it did get a rise out of her!!

It's great fun there!
